Starting point is 00:00:00 When they predict we'll fall, we rise to the challenge. When they say we're not a country, we stand on guard. This land taught us to be brave and caring, to protect our values, to leave no one behind. Canada is on the line, and it's time to vote as though our country depends on it, because like never before, it does. I'm Jonathan Pedneau, co-leader of the Green Party of Canada.
Starting point is 00:00:23 This election, each vote makes a difference. Authorized by the Registeredleader of the Green Party of Canada. This election, each vote makes a difference. Authorized by the registered agent of the Green Party of Canada. From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Claude Fay. On this Easter weekend before Canada's crucial vote, Canadians stand in long lines at advance polls. Liberal leader Mark Carney is getting ready to unveil his party's platform today in southern Ontario. Conservative leader Pierre Polly-Eve is spending his day in Richmond, BC,
Starting point is 00:00:53 while Bloc Québécois leader Yves-Francois Blanchet is holding a press conference in the city of Magog. New Democratic leader Jack Mid-Singh is back in his Burnaby Central riding today, where he's expected to outline his party's platform. Advance voting opened across the country yesterday, and many Canadians reported long lineups. I was a little surprised to see the length of the line this morning. It means that everybody's waking up. I think the urge to vote is more important now than ever, and I want to get it in and do my duty as fast as I can.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Voters are passionate. It's the biggest thing that's ever happened in my life. Advanced voting. I think it's a good sign. People are engaged. Elections Canada expects advanced voting will be busy throughout the weekend before they close on Monday. The agency says for those wanting to avoid lines, polling stations are usually busiest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Election Day is on Monday, April the 28th. Strolling stations are usually busiest between 10am and 4pm. Election day is on Monday, April 28th. Several buildings in the Ukrainian cultural heritage village east of Edmonton were destroyed
Starting point is 00:01:53 or damaged yesterday in a wildfire near Elk Island National Park. An eyewitness account of the fire, which prompted an evacuation alert for nearby residents, but has since been canceled. Officials say the wildfire is now contained and Highway 16 has reopened in both directions after being closed for several hours. RCMP said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Delegations from Iran and the U.S. begin a second round of talks about Tehran's rapidly advancing nuclear program.
Starting point is 00:02:31 They began last week in Oman and continue today in Rome. Similar to last week, the talks are expected to be indirect through Omani officials. Anna Cunningham has the latest. The US is concerned about just how far Iran has got with enriching uranium. This week, chief of the UN's nuclear watchdog Raphael Grossi told French newspaper Le Monde that Iran was not far from possessing a nuclear bomb. In the White House, that is raising red flags for President Donald Trump. I'm for stopping Iran very simply from having a nuclear weapon.
Starting point is 00:03:06 They can't have a nuclear weapon. Trump has previously threatened to attack Iran if a deal is not done. A week ago, the two sides described initial, indirect talks in Oman as constructive. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Arachi and Trump's special envoy Steve Whitcalf are now in Rome. They are expected to relay messages from separate rooms via the Amani negotiators. Iranche says reaching an agreement is possible as long as Washington is realistic. If the US requests a complete dismantling of Iran's nuclear program, these talks may prove short-lived.
Starting point is 00:03:40 Anna Cunningham, CBC News, London. Team Canada is hoping to punch its ticket to gold at the Women's World Hockey Championship in the Czech Republic. For us being at home here, games one and two, and being in front of our fans, I mean, it's incredible. You can feel the energy in the city whenever we're in the playoffs this time of year. And, you know, I just can't wait to hit the ice. In the late game, the Dallas Stars host the Colorado Avalanche in game one of their Western Conference playoffs. You can watch both games on CBC Television. Three other Canadian teams, Edmon, Toronto and Ottawa, begin
