When they predict we'll fall, we rise to the challenge.
When they say we're not a country, we stand on guard.
This land taught us to be brave and caring,
to protect our values, to leave no one behind.
Canada is on the line, and it's time to vote
as though our country depends on it,
because like never before, it does.
I'm Jonathan Pedneau, co-leader of the Green Party of Canada.
This election, each vote makes
a difference.
Authorized by the registered agent of the Green Party of Canada.
From CBC News, the world this hour.
I'm Claude Faye.
New Democrat leader Dagmeet Singh is back in his Burnaby Central riding.
He's expected to outline the NDP's entire election platform today at 1130
a.m. Eastern. Also, how much it would cost and how Ottawa could pay for it. David Thurton reports.
Are we all going to go vote? Yes. Yeah, let's go. A small group of supporters greet Jagmeet Singh.
The NDP leader and his wife are joining Canadians across the country to cast advanced
ballots. Singh's riding is Burnaby Central. Polls suggest Singh could be at risk of losing his own
seat. After 30 minutes in line, Singh meets polling clerks not long after he slips his
ballot into the box. Early in the day, Singh was in Yamashish, Quebec, unveiling his platform for
the province. He was also there to highlight one of his star candidates,
helping Ruth Ellen Brosseau win back her seat.
New Democrats lost it back in 2019.
Now, Brosseau is trying to take back the riding
from the Bloc Québécois.
I am not a new face here in Berthier-Masque-Norange.
I've always been present.
I think people are really worried this time around,
and they're looking for somebody that they could have confidence in.
Back in his riding today, Singh will unveil his full list of commitments to Canadians.
David Thurton, CBC News, Burnaby.
We're expecting to learn about the Liberal cost it out campaign platform today,
while the Conservative Party's is expected within the next few days.
Former assistant parliamentary budget officer, Sah Sahir Khan spoke to CBC's
host of the House, Catherine Cullen. He says, cost and platforms matter because Canadians
want to know what to expect from their government.
These are not just ideas. These are actually the cost of platforms really become the basis
of a governing party's speech from the throne, the first few budgets. And so we need to pay attention to them, because if they're not realistic, if they're not credible,
then you're going to be into this situation where, you know, the government's all hat
and no cap, as my uncle from Texas would say.
And that's a risk.
And you can hear the full interview, plus what party strategists think of the English
and French leaders' debates on the House with Catherine Cullen. That's this morning right after the 9 o'clock edition of World Report
930 in Newfoundland. US Senator Chris Van Hollen is urging El Salvador to act in
the case of a mistakenly deported resident of Maryland. Salvadoran
Kilmar Abrego Garcia was sent to a super prison in his native country despite
being granted protection by a judge in 2019.
Van Hollen flew to speak with Garcia in El Salvador
and says securing the meeting was difficult.
He says this case is not just about Garcia.
It's about protecting the constitutional rights
of everybody who resides in the United States of America.
If you deny the constitutional rights of one man, you threaten the constitutional rights
and due process for everyone else in America.
Both the U.S. and El Salvador have refused to arrange Garcia's release.
The Trump administration says without proof, Garcia is a gang member and that his fate
now rests with El Salvador.
The U.S. Supreme Court, meanwhile, has ordered a temporary halt to the Trump administration's
planned deportations of a group of Venezuelans detained in Texas.
The accused gang members were to be deported to El Salvador as early as today, but the
American Civil Liberties Union made an emergency appeal to the court, arguing there had been
no due process.
The majority of justices agreed.
The NHL playoffs get underway today with a pair of games.
The Winnipeg Jets, the league's best team this season, will face off with the St. Louis
Blues in Winnipeg at 5 p.m. Central in Game 1 of their Western Conference Series.
Forward, Mike Marksheifle, is ready for what's sure to be a loud Canada
Life Center.
You know the Seneca playoffs are amazing. You know we know this city is going to be
roaring and ready to go so you know we're just excited to get going.
And later the Dallas Stars will host Nathan McKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche in game
one of their Western Conference Playoff and you can watch both games on CBC television. And that is your World This Hour. For CBC News, I'm
Claude Fague.
