When they predict we'll fall, we rise to the challenge.
When they say we're not a country, we stand on guard.
This land taught us to be brave and caring, to protect our values, to leave no one behind.
Canada is on the line and it's time to vote as though our country depends on it.
Because like never before, it does.
I'm Jonathan Pedneau, co-leader of the Green Party of Canada.
This election, each vote makes a difference. Authorized by the Registeredleader of the Green Party of Canada, this election, each vote makes
a difference.
Authorised by the Registered Agent of the Green Party of Canada.
Constituents, and so whether it's issues related to immigration, employment insurance, pensions,
anything that the federal government is ultimately responsible for, MPs are accountable to their
constituents, right?
They have constituency offices.
They have staffers who run those
constituency offices, they can help people with specific inquiries, they can help to
support people, they turn up at events and they support people in those spaces, and that's
a lot of work.
And so I guess what I would ask as a response is, well, would you prefer that these MPs have less time to do that constituency work?
And I would suggest that maybe that wouldn't be the best thing for us.
So you know, ultimately, yes, 343 members is a lot of people, but Canada is a large
country with diverse interests and I hope that people engage their members regularly
to be able to keep them accountable and also to be
adequately served. I'd like to thank both of you for this fascinating conversation. Thank you very
much. My pleasure. I've been speaking with Atari Ajadi, who is an assistant professor of political
science at McGill University, and Andre Perella, who is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at
Laurier University. If you would like to hear more about the First Past the Post or Proportional
Representation, CBC's Ideas is running a week-long series called Ideas for a Better Canada.
That kicks off on Monday and will be on weekdays at 8 p.m. That's 8.30 in Newfoundland. You're going to have an opportunity to hear a lot more
about forms of representation and Canadians' ideas about that.
Ideas host Nala Ayer, she has been out to four cities across the country. She's been
moderating town halls, looking for local initiatives that inspire national change.
And one of the cities that she visited is Charlottetown, PEI. That province has had the most attempts at electoral reform. So
you're going to hear from someone who is still pushing to try proportional representation
on PEI. You can hear CBC Ideas for a Better Canada, the series next week, 8 p.m. weekdays, but you can also find it in their podcast feed.

Let's talk about why making your podcast your podcasts.
Let's talk about why making friends as an adult is so hard.
I'm 24 right now and I don't even have a core group of friends, like a friend group chat that I could talk to and go on trips with.
I kind of hit like a rough patch in my life where, you know, as you grow older,
you outgrow friendships.
The chapter of your life is changing profoundly which is impacting your friendships.
I feel like not a lot of people talk about it in terms of dealing with loneliness.
I have a few close friends but most of them don't even live in my city and it's really hard for us
to connect and talk to each other all the time. I need like best friends who are like ride or die
who want the best for me and you would think that's easy to find, but apparently it's not.
You deserve great friends.
And so if you're finding that it's impossible to create friends as an adult, you're not
alone.
I think everybody's a little bit lonely.
Everyone's looking for company.
Oh, this was just so much easier when we were all kids.
You went to school, you played street hockey with the kid across the street.
Maybe you made pals with somebody on your college floor,
or you were just working at the mall with a bunch of buds
and you all hang out.
And then you got older
and things got a little bit more complicated.
Maybe you were setting aside those loving emails
from the old friend, meaning to answer
and do that when you had a real moment,
but the time just ticked on by.
Or maybe you got a demanding job,
or you had kids, or you moved to a new town.
Suddenly just squeezing in time to pay the bills
and walk the dog was taking up all the spare time you had
and catching up with old pals just didn't rank.
Or maybe you've just changed over the years.
