From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Neil Herland. Mark Carney spent Easter Sunday in Nepean, the suburban Ottawa riding where he's running for a seat in parliament. The Liberal leader held an outdoor rally in front of hundreds of Liberal supporters before flying to the Maritimes. Tom Parry reports. Mark Carney, rhyming off a now familiar list of accomplishments, scrapping the consumer

carbon levy, ditching a plan to increase the capital gains tax, and bringing Canada's premiers together in agreeing to bring down inter-provincial trade barriers. We've done a lot. This is one month. I am describing the highlights from one month. Just imagine what the Liberal Party could do with a strong mandate back in. Carney urging Liberal supporters to pull out all the stops between now and election day. The Liberal leader is now in Atlantic Canada.

He'll spend the coming week criss-crossing the country, looking to hold onto the lead his Liberals have enjoyed throughout the campaign, looking for that strong mandate he so badly wants. Tom Perry, CBC News, Charlottetown. Bloc Québécois leader Yves-François Blanchet appeared on the most popular French talk show in the country last hour. Monsieur Blanchet declared that he thinks Liberal leader Mark Carney will become the next Prime Minister during an interview on the Radio-Canada TV show Tout le Monde en parle. Polls have shown the Liberals leading during the campaign,

although the latest numbers show the Conservatives are gaining ground, and the Bloc Québécois is on track to lose seats in Quebec, although Blanchet says he plans to stay on after the election, and he won't resign. Earlier in Surrey, B.C., Conservative leader Pierre Polyaev made this vow. I will axe the inflation tax. We will do this by cutting waste, capping spending,

reducing deficits, taxes, and inflation. We will cut bureaucracy, foreign aid, handouts to corporate insiders, special interest groups, and consultants. The conservatives have yet to release a costed version of their platform. Meantime, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh was in Victoria talking about how he wants to reduce inflation. We're going to put in a price cap on food essentials.

This is a policy that France has done and Greece has done. Both of them have effectively brought down food inflation in the case of France by 15 percent, and in the case of Greece they brought down food prices by 15 percent by putting in a price cap on food essentials. We're going to stop price gouging. Green co-leaders Elizabeth May and Jonathan Pedno did not have any public events today. The Israeli military says it will fire a deputy commander for his role in the killings of 15 paramedics in Gaza last month. An Israeli investigation found a series of failures including not obeying

orders and not fully reporting the incident. Palestinian Red Crescent ambulances came under fire when responding to an emergency. Philip Lee Shannok reports. Video from a mobile phone found on the body of a medic shows that ambulances in the convoy were clearly marked and had their emergency lights on when Israeli forces opened fire on them near Rafa in southern Gaza on March 23rd. It directly contradicts Israel's initial report that the vehicles did not slow down down had no markings, lights or emergency signals. Israeli government spokesman David Menser maintained Israeli troops believed that they were under attack. IDF soldiers opened fire from a distance at vehicles that were moving suspiciously in their direction. While Israel hasn't provided evidence that the six aid workers were linked to Hamas,

Menser said their documented cases of the group using civilian infrastructure is covered. The United Nations and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have demanded a completely independent investigation. Philoply Shannok, CBC News, Toronto.
