Well, hey, look at us. You listen to Frontburner, I listen to Frontburner. We have something in
common. My name is Alameen Abdul Mahmood. And look, we get to hear Jamie and the Frontburner team
keep us on top of the big news stories that matter. I am someone who looks to culture to make sense
of the world. The TV shows and books and music and movies that meet the moment. That's the kind of
stuff I talk about every day on the podcast I host. It's called commotion. And if you want to
hear smart, funny people talk about
what the culture we consume says about us right now,
follow Commotion wherever you get your podcasts.

From CBC News, it's The World Is Our.
I'm Joe Cummings.
With less than a week left in the federal election campaign,
the main party leaders are fanned out across Canada today.
Conservative leader Pierre Polyev is in Hamilton, Ontario,
promising to shut down the country's urban encampments and tent cities.
These homeless encampments are a symbol of everything this last liberal decade has brought us.
Doubling housing costs, out of control food prices, which put people
under economic strain, and of course rampant liberalization of drugs and crime, which allow
the chaos to expand.
Paulyev is also announcing that his party's tough on crime agenda is being endorsed by
the Toronto Police Association.
Meanwhile, the Liberals' Mark Carney is campaigning in B.C. with a rally scheduled for Surrey.
Jagmeet Singh is also in Western Canada.
He's in Edmonton this morning and will take part later in a virtual forum with the Assembly
of First Nations.
The body of Pope Francis is now lying in casket was carried into the Basilica, followed by
a procession of cardinals and members of the Swiss Guard.
Thousands of people will file past the coffin over the next three days ahead of Saturday's
funeral.
It doesn't appear Mark Carney in his capacity as Prime Minister will attend the ceremony,
but it's expected
that Governor-General Mary Simon will be in attendance.
Indian police say they're searching for four gunmen following yesterday's attack on a
popular tourist destination in Kashmir.
Twenty-six people were killed in what the Indian government is calling an act of terrorism.
Nia Punya has the latest.
Businesses in Indian-administered Kashmir are shut as locals protest what is the deadliest
attack on civilians in nearly two decades.
Tourists are leaving the picturesque region in large numbers.
Eyewitnesses claim the gunmen appeared out of nowhere as tourists entered a scenic valley
in the town of Pahelgaon.
Survivors say only men were targeted.
The Indian government says it won't bend to terror
and in a rare moment of solidarity, Malikar Junkarghe,
the head of India's main opposition party, delivered this message.
This is a direct attack on the Indian state.
We urge the government to use all its strength to hunt down the terrorists.
World leaders, including Donald Trump, have condemned the attack, which coincided with
US Vice President JD Vance's India visit.
Experts say the timing was likely aimed at grabbing maximum international attention.

Talks on a peace agreement for the war in Ukraine are underway in London.
However, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has backed away at the last minute,
fueling speculation that the U.S. may be considering Russian demands
that Ukraine considers unacceptable.
Crystal Gamansing has more.
These negotiations must not result in appeasing the aggressor.
Yuri Sak, advisor to Ukraine's Ministry of Strategic Industries, says Ukraine's negotiators
will be at the table.
They want peace, but says Ukraine has clear red lines.
It would be naive to actually expect Ukraine to somehow miraculously change our position
now, for example, with regards to Crimea.
There are reports that the US is willing to bend
to some of Russia's demands.
They are reported to include
recognizing Russia's annexation of Crimea,
as well as at least four other Ukrainian zones
invaded by Russia.
In exchange, fighting would be halted.
European leaders have expressed concern
Russian demands are being prioritized over Ukraine.
Axios reports the White House's Ukraine envoy,
Keith Kellogg, will be there to present
the US's final peace plan.
