This land taught us to be brave and caring, to protect our values, to leave no one behind. Canada is on the line and it's time to vote as though our country depends on it. Because like never before, it does. I'm Jonathan Pedneau, co-leader of the Green Party of Canada. This election, each vote makes a difference. Authorized by the Registeredleader of the Green Party of Canada. This election, each vote, makes a difference. Authorized by the registered agent of the Green Party of Canada.
Starting point is 00:00:34 From CBC News, it's the World This Hour. I'm Joe Cummings. First to Washington. I really don't want cars from Canada. So when I put tariffs on Canada, they're paying 25 percent, but that could go up. From the White House last night, that is US President Donald Trump returning to a familiar theme and once again putting himself center stage in the Canadian election campaign. And Liberal leader Mark Carney was quick to respond.
Starting point is 00:01:03 Tom Perry reports. Who is ready? Who is ready to stand up for Canada with me? Mark Carney in Surrey, BC, on a day when Donald Trump barged back into Canadian politics. The US president repeating his false claims about the US subsidizing its northern neighbour and his wish that Canada become America's 51st state. As he made clear once again today in the Oval Office, once again today in the Oval Office, President Trump,
Starting point is 00:01:38 he is trying to break us so that America can own us. Trump had for the most part gone quiet on Canada, Break us so that America can own us. Trump had, for the most part, gone quiet on Canada. But his latest meanderings could fuel the Liberals in the final days of this election. Carney is in BC looking to win writings held by conservatives and New Democrats. Tom Perry, CBC News, Surrey, BC. As for the other party leaders... We will be Canada. Canada first, Canada always, Canada forever.
Starting point is 00:02:11 This Conservative leader, Pierre Poliev, at a rally last night in Trenton, Nova Scotia. At the same time, NDP leader, Jagmeet Singh, was in Winnipeg. These tariffs will make it impossible, I think, for a lot of these companies to continue. It is a devastating blow to have increased tariffs on our automobile sector. And that's why I think what we need to do is to say, if you want to have access to our market, you need to have a presence in our country. That means jobs in our country. We're expecting more on Trump today from Bloc leader Yves-Francois Blanchet. He has a stop planned in Montreal at the city's Bombardier head office. And Montreal is also where Green Party leader, Jonathan, co-leader Jonathan
Starting point is 00:02:48 Pednau is campaigning today. Meanwhile, the Trump administration's campaign to deport millions of undocumented immigrants is now raising questions about Canada's safe third country agreement with the United States. Jorge Barrara explains. Aracely says she and her husband would wait to cry until their daughters fell asleep. She says the girls are 4 and 14 years old and gave them the strength to get through the two weeks they spent locked inside a windowless jail cell at the U.S. Port of Entry in Niagara Falls, New York. CBC News is identifying Aracely by first name only for her safety. Aracely and her family were trying to flee the Trump administration's crackdown on undocumented
Starting point is 00:03:32 immigrants, but they were turned back at the Canadian border over small naming differences in her and her brother's birth certificates. Heather Neufeld, an Ottawa lawyer, has filed a federal court appeal to overturn Canada Border Services Agency's rejection. Having a brother who is a Canadian citizen, Aracely qualifies to seek asylum in Canada. Aracely's husband is now in a U.S. detention centre while she and her daughters remain free in Buffalo, living with fear she could be deported to El Salvador. Jorge Barrera, CBC News, Buffalo, New York.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Kiev was targeted overnight by a series of Russian missile strikes. The large-scale Russian missile and drone attack on the Ukrainian capital has claimed at least nine lives, with another 70 people reported injured. The attacks came after peace discussions underway in London this week appear to have stalled. So many people lined up to see Pope Francis lying in state at St. Peter's Basilica yesterday that the Vatican kept the doors open all night. The Vatican had planned to have the Basilica open only until midnight, but then indicated it would extend the hours due to the higher than expected turnout.
