So Canada, we've got to choose a new prime minister and it's a pretty crucial time.
Even people who don't normally follow politics are trying to figure out what the heck is
going on.
I'm Catherine Cullen, host of The House, and I started a new weekly election show with
two friends and fellow political nerds.
Hello, I'm Daniel Thibault bringing you the Quebec Point de Vu.
I'm Jason Microsoft and Calvary bringing the takes and stakes from the West.
Together, we are House Party, a weekly elections podcast for everyone.
We tackle one big burning question every Wednesday.
Find us in the House's feed wherever you get your podcasts.
From CBC News, it's the world this hour.
I'm Joe Cummings. There is an unexpected development in the sexual assault trial of five former Canadian World Junior Hockey players.
The judge in the case has declared a mistrial.
Karen Pauls reports from London, Ontario.
Moments ago in a London, Ontario court, the jury was told this trial has been declared a mistrial.
After hearing submissions from the defence and Crown yesterday,
Justice Maria Carrocchia made the decision.
But we couldn't report on it until the jury had been told.
That has now happened and they've been dismissed.
Sam Puccella is a London-based lawyer.
Just like how justice should not only be done, but must be seen to be done, the perception of fairness is just as important as fairness itself.
Selection of a new jury starts today with hopes a new trial can begin on
Monday. Karen Pauls, CBC News, London, Ontario. With just three days left in the
federal election campaign the party leaders are out making their final pitch
to Canadian voters.
And that means it will be a weekend of high-intensity campaigning in swing writings right across
the country.
Janice McGregor reports.
In his final cross-country push this weekend, Pierre Polly-Eve is headlining a fast-paced
series of rallies that the Conservatives have named rallies for change. The days of liberal arrogance that tell Western Canadians to pay up and shut up, those days are over.
If all goes according to what the Liberals are planning, as early as next week we might be talking about
Mark Carney sitting down with Donald Trump to renegotiate their economic and security partnership. We need a strong positive government because as the president made clear again yesterday in the Oval Office,
he is trying to break us.
This morning the Liberal leader is taking that message to Sault Ste. Marie.
Jagmeet Singh starts his day in Toronto where he's dropping in on a public service union convention, Singh will be spending the rest of his day
where his handful of incumbents need that help
in southwestern Ontario.
Janice McGregor, CBC News, Ottawa.
FBI Director Cash Patel says a Wisconsin County judge
accused of helping a man avoid immigration enforcement
has been arrested.
Patel says his office believes Judge Hannah Dugan
intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the suspect.
Patel has publicly identified the man and says Judge Dugan's actions allowed him to evade arrest.
Just weeks after the Trump administration cut its funding to the World Food Program,
the WFP has announced it will be forced to reduce its operations in Sudan. The country's ongoing civil war has left an estimated 25 million people facing extreme
hunger and tens of thousands have died while fleeing the fighting.
Noah Taylor is with the Norwegian Refugee Council.
Noah Taylor The stories we've been hearing are truly horrific.
People dying of thirst on the way, people walking the 40-kilometer
stretch only to die on arrival. We spoke to a family who told us of a girl who had walked
on foot by herself, was repeatedly raped along the journey, and then died of her wounds when she arrived.
The WFP says it has been in contact with the Trump administration to, quote,
urge for continued support. The Civil War in Sudan is now in its third year.
One of Ukraine's most influential politicians is saying it may be time for Ukraine to consider
ceding territory to Russia.
Vitaly Klitschko is the mayor of Kyiv.
It's a very difficult political decision to give up our territory to Russia.
It's not a solution.
It's not solution. It's not fair. But I guess we never accept occupation
of Russia. I guess Ukrainian people never accept that. But for the peace, temporary
peace, maybe it can be solution.
Klichko's comments come as the Trump administration says Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky
is hindering the peace process by
refusing to give up territory.
And that is The World This Hour.
