I'm Neil Herland.
Prime Minister Mark Carney campaigned on a promise to confront Donald Trump and it appears
he'll soon get his chance.
The U.S. president says a meeting is in the works.
As Paul Hunter reports, the two leaders will be talking tariffs.
But on maybe Trump's most consequential step of them all, his global tariffs, notably those
targeting Canada's auto industry, steel and aluminum industries and beyond,
a signal from Trump change maybe in the cards after all,
highlighting his phone call yesterday with freshly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney.
I think we're going to have a great relationship.
He called me up yesterday, he said, let's make a deal.
Deal-making now set to at least begin, suggested Trump, almost immediately. He's going to come to the White House very shortly, within the next week or less.
Where any of it goes from here is as ever known only to Trump.
Though for Canada, a better sense of things may well come soon with as Trump now expects
that sit down in the Oval Office with he and Mark Carney very shortly.

The United States and Ukraine have signed a long-awaited deal on rare earth minerals.
The agreement would provide Washington with access to Ukraine's natural resources.
In exchange, Ukraine would get American investment and potential military aid.
While it does not explicitly provide U.S. security guarantees, the agreement expresses
a commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and long-term prosperity. A deal had been in
the works for months. It was derailed in February after a heated argument between
U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval
Office. Well, just hours before playing an NHL game, Washington Capitals forward Taylor Radish
testified by video link at the sexual assault trial of his former World Junior Hockey teammates.
He's the first hockey player called as a witness and is not facing any charges.
The CBC's Karen Pauls is in court.
Taylor Radish said he and his teammates were at the Hockey Canada ring ceremony for winning the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championship.
He told court he went to Jack's bar with the team and although he says he wasn't drinking heavily, he can't remember much about what happened that night.
Radish does recall going into Michael McLeod's hotel room next door to his.
He remembers seeing a woman, probably on the bed, but he doesn't remember
if she was dressed.
Radish confirms he got text messages from a team group chat involving 19 people. One
of them, sent by McCloud, said,
Who wants to be in a three-way quick? In another text, McCloud told Radish to come to his room
if he wanted oral sex.
In another message about a week later, Radish sent a text saying one of Hockey Canada's staff called him about an investigation.
The Crown has previously said the players had a discussion about getting their stories straight in case they were questioned.

or a military launch or an attack.
