1942, Europe. Soldiers find a boy surviving alone in the woods. They make him a member
of Hitler's army. But what no one would know for decades, he was Jewish.
Could a story so unbelievable be true?
I'm Dan Goldberg. I'm from CBC's personally, Toy Soldier.

The Supreme Court of Canada has decided it will not hear a climate change lawsuit being
put forward by a group of Ontario teenagers.
It means the challenge will instead be revived in an Ontario court.
Lawyers for the seven young people are arguing that the Ontario government's decision seven
years ago to replace its climate target with weaker numbers jeopardizes their right
to life.
But today's decision means the case will now be ruled at the provincial level.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has spoken on the telephone with Ukrainian President Vladimir
Zelensky, and among the issues discussed was Zelensky's request for further sanctions on
Russian banking and energy sectors.
But it is Ukraine's relationship with the United States that's making news today.
Both the United States and the government of Ukraine look forward to quickly operationalizing
this historic economic partnership.
And as U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bissent speaking last night after Washington and Kiev
signed a rare minerals deal.
We are still waiting for the details to be made public, but US President Donald Trump
has said the agreement has the potential to offer the United States more than what it
has spent to date supporting the Ukrainian war effort.
To mark the first 100 days of Donald Trump's second term as president, Kamala Harris delivered
a blistering speech last night in San Francisco.
It was her first public address since her November election loss, and the former vice
president zeroed in on a range of issues from tariffs and deportations to the Constitution.
Steve Funderman has more.
Kamala Harris accused the Trump administration of trying to scare the American people. We all know President Trump and his administration are counting on the notion that fear can be
contagious.
She called it part of a well-conceived agenda.
To shrink government and then privatize its services, all while giving tax breaks to the
wealthiest among us.
In one of her sharpest attacks,
Harris said Trump is abandoning American ideals.
It is not okay to detain and disappear American citizens
or anyone without due process.
She called the Trump tariffs
the greatest man-made economic crisis
in modern American history
and said it could lead to a recession.
The president's reckless tariffs hurt workers and families.
Harris said the country may very well be on the verge of entering a constitutional crisis.

The latest research is showing a significant drop in the number of emergency room visits
by Canadian
minors needing mental health care.
Over a five-year period starting in 2018, it was down by 30 percent.
Cheryl Chewie is the director at the Canadian Institute for Health Information.
These data points suggest that we're seeing a bit of a shift in where children and youths
are getting care for their mental health and
shifting away from hospitals and towards community settings.
HOFFMAN She says in several provinces across the country,
more young people are talking to their doctors about their mental health and
more are being prescribed medications for mood and anxiety.
HOFFMAN Now to hockey, and that's it for the Montreal Canadians.
They're going crazy in downtown Washington. That was a final call in Washington last
night as the Capitals were finishing off the Canadians in round one of the
Stanley Cup playoffs. Washington defeated Montreal in five games, sending the Habs into the offseason.
As for the other Canadian teams, Winnipeg beat St. Louis last night 5-3,
so the Jets lead that best of seven, three games to two.
Tonight Toronto is in Ottawa with the Senators facing elimination in that series,
and the Oilers are at home tonight needing a win to finish off the LA Kings.
And that is The World This Hour. For CBC News, I'm Joe Cummings.
