From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Mike Miles. Ontario is reporting a spike in measles
infections. More than 200 cases were reported this past week alone. The vast majority of infections are in unvaccinated children.
And despite the surge, getting more people immunized,
as Jennifer Yoon reports, hasn't been easy.
It's sad.
Oakville, Ontario mom Sumaiya Hafeez
has vaccinated her kids against measles.
But she's alarmed.
In her region of Halton, only about 25% of 7-year-olds
are fully immunized,
according to the latest provincial data.
There are the groups who do not approve of vaccinations and then they put everyone at risk.
Measles is spreading at an accelerated pace in Ontario. The province is reporting over 200
more cases this past week, bringing the total to 1,242 cases so far this year.
In Alberta, vaccination rates are less than 50% among 7-year-olds in some communities.
The province is reporting 193 cases this year, the most in almost three decades.
Dr. Allison Goncalves with Alberta Health Services South Zone says her team is talking to families,
hesitant to get the jab.
We have to get more information out to parents about what they need to stay informed and
to combat that misinformation that's out there.

Canada's auto industry will avoid new American tariffs set to kick in this weekend.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection says auto parts that are compliant with Kusma will be
exempt from the 25% levies.

Calgary police say vigilante justice may be the motivation for several alleged assaults on men
accused of arranging to meet an underage teen for sex. The victims in these assaults have also been charged with arranging to meet a minor for a sexual purpose.
Rick Donkers reports.
They seem to believe very strongly in what they did and what they did was righteous.
Inspector Keith Hurley says police know of three incidents in March where a group of three men and one youth
posed as underage teens on the
dating app Grinder attempting to lure men to a secluded area in order to
assault them. It seems very organized and orchestrated. It's there was a clear
intent to intimidate and potentially cause more violence to these individuals
than was already taken upon them. In one case the victim was hospitalized after
being assaulted with a baseball bat and a replica firearm.
Not only have three men and a youth been charged with the assaults, police have also charged
three of the alleged assault victims with arranging to meet a minor for a sexual purpose.
All of the accused are scheduled to appear in court later this month.
Rick Donkers, CBC News, Calgary.
Several Manitoba chiefs are taking their concerns about an auction of Hudson's Bay artifacts
to the top executive at the Bay. Jerry Daniels of the Southern Chiefs organization is optimistic
about Friday's meeting. He wants anything of cultural value to First Nations to be returned.
Daniels says many private corporations have indigenous items. It's very essential, I think, to everybody who has our items and our history within their possession
that those, that you think about how that's going to be repatriated.
Daniel says a collector estimates $12 million worth of First Nations artifacts from Canada
are in private ownership in Switzerland.
