Friday is an official day of mourning
Starting point is 00:00:38 across BC for the victims of last weekend's tragedy at Vancouver's Lapu Lapu Festival. 11 people were killed when a man drove a truck into a crowd. When the driver got out, bystanders held him down. Bus driver Dudley Green protected him from the angry witnesses. My concern mostly was for the fact that if they had basically attempted to hurt this person or kill this person, those people involved now would also have to deal with the trauma of their actions. And I think that people are in a heightened state of anger and frustration and shock,
Starting point is 00:01:11 they respond very negatively. And unfortunately, this situation brought out probably the worst in people. The suspect is charged with eight counts of second-degree murder. He will appear in court Friday. Thirteen people are being treated in hospital. In northern BC, officials are warning of warm, dry, and windy conditions this weekend, prime conditions for wildfires. One north of Trumbler Ridge has disrupted
Starting point is 00:01:36 telephone and internet service, while another near Fort St. John has led to evacuations. The blazes are suspected to be human caused. They've been chased out of their community and their homes have been destroyed. The First Nation in B.C. is turning to traditional forms of indigenous justice. They've banished a man accused of murder and people linked to him from their First Nation. But as Brady Strachan tells us, officials worry it could go too far. In video uploaded to social media, people lined the highway near Prince George as a truck approaches.

The RCMP say a man named Luke Pearson was killed in a targeted hit and run. 32-year-old Tyson Young is charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody late last month first nation leaders banished young and 7 people associated with him from their community on high to go I and demolished homes owned by the band that they were living in. Terry TG is chief of the BC assembly of First Nations chief and council of skidding it know that these people were selling drugs and I think took

Starting point is 00:03:21 posed as underage teens on the dating app Grinder, attempting to lure men to a secluded area in order to assault them. It seems very organized and orchestrated. There was a clear intent to intimidate and potentially cause more violence to these individuals than was already taken upon them. In one case, the victim was hospitalized after being assaulted with a baseball bat and a replica firearm. Not only have three men and a youth been charged with the assaults, police have also charged
Starting point is 00:03:51 three of the alleged assault victims with arranging to meet a minor for a sexual purpose. All of the accused are scheduled to appear in court later this month.
