When a body is discovered 10 miles out to sea, it sparks a mind-blowing police investigation.
There's a man living in this address in the name of a deceased.
He's one of the most wanted men in the world.
This isn't really happening.
Officers are finding large sums of money.
It's a tale of murder, skullduggery and international intrigue.
So who really is he?
I'm Sam Mullins and this is Sea of Lies from CBC's Uncovered, available now.
From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Julianne Hazelwood.
We begin in Pictou County, Nova Scotia where the search for two missing children continues.
Six-year-old Lily Sullivan and her four-year-old brother Jack
haven't been seen since Friday morning.
Searchers are combing a dense wooded area for any sign of them.
RCMP Staff Sergeant Josh Weiss is the incident commander.
He says a range of technology has been used.
So I think we had seven or eight drones out at night
using forward-looking infrared cameras
between the Alma Fire Department,
the RCMP Emergency Response Team, and then there was heavy urban search and rescue dogs from
Halifax Fire that were searching all night and then multiple search teams doing grid searches on
the ground. He says people in the area can help with the search by checking sheds, culverts,
and ditches on their properties. Police say there's no evidence the children were abducted.
Prime Minister Mark Carney is preparing to meet the U.S.
president in Washington on Tuesday.
Carney says he expects difficult but constructive conversations
about trade and security.
Everett Eisenstadt was a former economic adviser during the
first Trump administration.
He says he would tell the prime minister to stay pragmatic and use the meeting as a first step in
navigating a new relationship with the US. We really need to see it from each
other's perspectives. There's security discussions, there's border discussions,
there's a real recognition about the need for resilient supply chains. So
there's an opportunity there to open the aperture beyond just the traditional trade discussion that I think could be very, very fruitful.
Carney has said he doesn't expect the meeting to lead to an immediate
resolution to the tariff issue. In the UK, eight people have been arrested on
suspicion of plotting terrorist attacks and seven of those arrested are Iranian
nationals. As Anya Cunningham tells us, British intelligence officials say Iran is a big problem.
Police say these arrests were part of two separate investigations.
Counterterrorism officers detained five men, four of them Iranian nationals, on Saturday
on suspicion of plotting to target a specific premises where has not been revealed.
The three other men, all Iranians, were arrested in West London by the Metropolitan
Police's counter-terrorism command. They were detained using national security
legislation on suspicion of involvement with a foreign power. There is intense
scrutiny of suspected Iran-backed activities in Britain. The UK's
domestic intelligence chief, Ken McCallum, said last year that since 2022, officers had
responded to 20 Tehran-backed plots that potentially posed a lethal threat to British citizens
and residents. The Iranian embassy in London has not commented.
Anna Cunningham, CBC News, London.
Brazilian police say they thwarted a bomb plot targeting a Lady Gaga concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro.
Police say it was organized by an online group that promotes hatred towards the LGBTQ plus community and others.
They are planning to get teenage followers to detonate improvised bombs and throw Molotov
cocktails.
2.1 million people attended the free concert on Saturday.
Today's mass at St. Peter's Basilica marks the final day of mourning for Pope Francis.
Cardinals will gather at a Papal Conclave on Wednesday to choose the 267th Pope.
The pontiff chosen will indicate if the Vatican
will continue Francis' policies
or return to a more conservative path.
And the Winnipeg Jets have a do or die game,
seven tonight against the St. Louis Blues.
But Jets forward and Halifax native,
Morgan Barron says the team is looking forward
to the challenge.
You know, these game sevens are kind of the moments
you grow up watching on TV and dreaming
about playing in them so we're all really excited about it and I think it's a great
opportunity for us.
The bad news, center Mark Schieffeli will not be playing because of an undisclosed injury
he received in game five.
The good news is every game in this series has been won by the hometown team and tonight's
game is being played in Winnipeg.
And that is your World This Hour. For CBC News, I'm Julianne Hazelwood.
