From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Julianne Hazelwood. Prime Minister Mark Carney updated
premieres today on his high stakes meeting with US President Donald Trump. While tariffs
weren't lifted, provincial leaders are optimistic progress is being made.
Olivia Stefanovich reports. We were all grateful that the meeting went the way
that it did. BC Premier David Eby says First Ministers are breathing a sigh of
relief. Thankful yesterday's meeting in the Oval Office didn't set back Canada-
U.S. relations any further. We feel though like, you know, a good friend is in a bad relationship right now.
There are signs the relationship is on the mend.
It's a great honour to have Prime Minister Mark Carney with us.
The White House released a flattering video following Carney's visit with U.S. President
Donald Trump.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford says it's a positive sign.
It's good for the country. It's good for the U.S.
Carney and Trump are scheduled to meet again next month at the G7 summit in
Kenanaskis, Alberta. Ahead of the high stakes discussion, the Prime Minister
will meet premiers in person on June 2nd in Saskatoon.

RCMP say they're scaling back the search for two missing children in in Saskatoon. Olivia Yastofanovich, CBC News, Ottawa.
RCMPs say they're scaling back the search for two missing children in
northeastern Nova Scotia after six days. Staff Sergeant Curtis McKinnon.
The active search efforts to locate Lily and Jack will be scaled back. And when transitioning from an active search to a scaled back search, the probability of survival is taken into consideration.
I want to assure you that our missing persons investigation continues. We're not packing up and we're
not giving up and it won't end till we know where Lily and Jack are and can
bring them home. RCMP say searchers have covered more than four square
kilometers but McKinnon says they're circling back to places they've already
searched to make sure no clues were missed. Six-year-old Lily Sullivan and
her four-year-old brother Jack were last seen Friday. They're believed to have wandered away from their house in Pictou County.
Wildfire season is underway in Alberta.
Hundreds of people have been told to leave their homes as fires burn nearby.
And several other communities are under evacuation alerts.
Julia Wong has the latest.
We're approaching about 175 people working on the emergency scene. Sturgeon County Fire Chief Chad Moore says crews are working tirelessly as
wildfire burns near the town of Redwater about 70 kilometers northeast of
Edmonton. We do expect that we will see some significant fire activity and crews
will be working to contain it to within that boundary of the forested area.
Residents in some parts of the county have been ordered to leave as the wildfire approaches
2,000 hectares in size. Mayor Elena Natu has just one ask.
We need rain and the wind to stop.
Meanwhile, north of there, the village of Boyle, with a population of roughly 800, has
also been evacuated.
Wildfire is burning one and a half kilometers south of that community and it's moving north.
More than 20 wildfires are burning in Alberta right now and the season is only just beginning.
Julia Wong, CBC News, Edmonton.
Police in Newfoundland and Labrador are also evacuating some communities.
There are several fires burning on the Avalon Peninsula.
The largest of them is in the Adams Cove area in Conception Bay North.
WestJet is canceling nine routes to the US, at least temporarily. They include
flights from Western Canada to destinations like Chicago, Orlando,
Atlanta, and others. The company says the decision was taken because of a drop in
Canada-US travel. WestJet also says it's seen an increase in demand for domestic
travel, specifically between Eastern and Western Canadaet also says it's seen an increase in demand for domestic travel, specifically
between eastern and western Canada. It says it recently introduced three new domestic
routes in response, as well as two routes between Canada and Europe.
And black smoke above the Vatican Sistine Chapel has signaled no pope has been selected
on the conclave's first vote. The doors of the Sistine Chapel shut tight after the Cardinals took an oath of secrecy
earlier today.
133 Cardinals from all over the world are expected to hold several rounds of voting
that can stretch out over several days.
Once the successor to Pope Francis is chosen, there will be white smoke from the chapel's chimney.
And that is Your World This Hour.
For CBC News, I'm Julianne Hazelwood.
