Starting point is 00:00:00 When a body is discovered 10 miles out to sea, it sparks a mind-blowing police investigation. There's a man living in this address in the name of a deceased. He's one of the most wanted men in the world. This isn't really happening. Officers are finding large sums of money. It's a tale of murder, skullduggery and international intrigue. So who really is he? I'm Sam Mullins and this is Sea of Lies from CBC's Uncovered, available now.
Starting point is 00:00:34 From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Mandi Shamm. We begin at the Vatican. The historic announcement before a crowd of thousands packed in St. Peter's Square as a senior cardinal proclaims, we have a pope. The next leader of the Catholic Church is American Robert Prevost. The 69-year-old then appeared and delivered his first words as Pope Leo XIV. Pope Francis says, Peace be with you. Peace be with you, said the new pope. He was born in Chicago and is a missionary who spent much of his career ministering in Peru. Prevost is the first American in history to be pope.
Starting point is 00:01:18 He also holds Peruvian citizenship. He secedes Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21st. There are still some teased to cross, but the US and UK say they have the framework of a trade deal. The agreement would be the first of its kind since President Donald Trump launched his global trade war. Nick Harper has the details from Washington. So we have a big economic security blanket. The reciprocal agreement will see more exports of American beef, ethanol and agricultural products to the UK, while British-made cars will have their tariff rate dropped from 27.5% to 10%.
Starting point is 00:01:56 But President Donald Trump admitted some details still need to be worked out. There won't be any red tape. Things are going to move very quickly both ways. The final details are being written up in the coming weeks. We'll have it all very conclusive. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer joined by phone. I think it's a real tribute to the history that we have of working so closely together. President Trump called the deal good for both countries but perhaps more so for the president who's been under pressure to secure a deal having
Starting point is 00:02:30 promised 90 deals in 90 days. This is his first but he's promising there will be more to come. Nick Harper for CBC News Washington. Ontario has added almost 200 new cases of measles to its count since April 29th. This means there have been more than 1,400 infections in the province since the outbreak began last October. By comparison, the U.S. has so far announced just over 900 cases nationwide, with Texas being the epicentre. Most of the cases in Ontario are in young children and unvaccinated individuals. India and Pakistan continue to exchange strong words, accusing each other of aggression. Drones and artillery are said to be used by both sides in the disputed Kashmir region,
Starting point is 00:03:16 and the military tensions show no signs of easing. Salima Shivji has the details. Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary speaks for the Pakistan Armed Forces. India has undertaken yet another blatant military act of aggression against Pakistan. India says it did target air defence systems in Pakistan, but it accused that country of attempting its own drone attacks. And New Delhi says this response has been measured and justified, spurred by the militant attack last month that killed 26 men, mostly tourists. India's Foreign Affairs Minister Subramaniam Jayashankar
Starting point is 00:03:50 is again saying that his country does not want the conflict to spiral. However, if there are military attacks on us, it will be met with a very, very firm response. Strong words of warning as heavy artillery fire is still being exchanged along the line of control. Salima Shivji, CBC News, Mumbai. A ceremony in London's Westminster Abbey marked 80 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe. King Charles and Prince William laid wreaths at the grave of the unknown warrior in memory of soldiers who died in the war. A two-minute silence was also observed across the UK at midday.
Starting point is 00:04:34 The service also included an appearance of 10-year-old Alexander Churchill, the great-great-grandson of wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
