Volodymyr Zelensky is challenging Vladimir Putin to meet him in person this Thursday. The Russian president offered to restart talks after Zelensky urged Moscow to agree to a 30-day ceasefire. Putin's proposal comes after the leaders of Britain, France, Germany and Poland threatened to ramp up sanctions and increase military aid if Putin didn't agree to a 30-day ceasefire. In an early morning televised statement from the Kremlin, Putin responded. We are determined to have serious negotiations with Ukraine. And on Sunday, after a post from US President Donald Trump urging him to meet with Putin, Zelensky dropped his demand for a ceasefire before talks proceed.

A ceasefire between India and Pakistan appears to be holding, even after both sides accused each other of violating it with airstrikes, just hours after it came into effect on Saturday. Officials in both countries say strikes targeted military installations and rebel infrastructure. India claims its strikes killed more than 100 militants. Pope Leo is calling for peace, a point he underlined in his first Sunday blessing at St. Peter's Square.
