Prime Minister Mark Carney will announce his cabinet Tuesday and Canadians will be watching who makes the cut. The CBC's Kate McKenna has late details and some names. Sources tell CBC Radio Canada that Quebec MPs Joël Lightbound and Nathalie Prevot will be joining cabinet. Former Transport Minister Christophe Freeland will stay in cabinet, though her role is unclear. A group that wants Alberta to separate from Canada says it's gaining support. The Alberta Prosperity Project has written a ballot question for a referendum. As Paige Parsons reports, they want to see a vote this year.
Starting point is 00:01:53 In Calgary, Jeffrey Rath shared the separatist plans of his group, the Alberta Prosperity Project. They want Albertans to vote in a referendum with this ballot question. Do you agree that the province of Alberta shall become a sovereign country and cease to be a province of Canada, yes or no? New legislation introduced by Alberta's United Conservative Party government has paved the way for such a referendum. So far, Alberta Prosperity says it has gathered more than 200,000 online
Starting point is 00:02:26 pledges from supporters. But to move ahead, those online pledges need to be formalized in a petition as signatures. They need at least 177,000. The Assembly of First Nations said a separation would be illegitimate and unconstitutional without the consent of First Nations. Paige Parsons, CBC News, Edmonton. The uncertainty that's currently present in the United States related to the Trump administration presents a significant opportunity for British Columbia. BC Premier David Eby says more nurses trained in the US
Starting point is 00:02:57 are finding it easier to work in the province. The government streamlined credential recognition last month. Eby says that means nurses can register in the province in a few days instead of months. As a result, he says applications from U.S. trained nurses have more than doubled. Edan Alexander is back in Israel tonight.
Starting point is 00:03:18 The Palestinian militant group Hamas handed over the 21-year-old Israeli-American hostage to the Red Cross on Monday with hopes of restarting ceasefire talks. Sasha Petrusic reports. As Eidon Alexander was airlifted out of Gaza, his family cheered. Adopted father Doran Zechser beamed. It was the best meal that we had for 584 days.
Starting point is 00:03:45 The American Israeli citizen serving with the IDF when he was kidnapped on October 7th was released by Hamas after direct negotiations with the US, bypassing the Israeli government. It offered no ceasefire and no exchange of Palestinian prisoners. Take him, says one Gazan, but at least let aid in. Israel didn't offer that either. Instead, this was touted as a goodwill gesture by Hamas to get the US to pressure Israel into ending the 19-month war.
Starting point is 00:04:18 But with 58 other hostages still held, 23 of them alive, Israel is preparing to expand its military operation, not end it. Sasha Petrusik, CBC News, Toronto.
