From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Stephanie Scanderis. We begin in Ottawa with a look at Prime Minister Mark Carney's new cabinet. Twenty-eight ministers and 10 secretaries of state have been sworn in today at Rideau Hall, and many of them are brand new MPs. David Thurton has more. With a new team, purpose built for this hinge moment in Canada's history.

and declare... Heads to industry. Krisha Freeland keeps her job at transport. Carney's new cabinet has 28 members. Many are rookie ministers, like former Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson. Carney is reviving a dormant ministerial role. Ten secretaries of state are supporting the new cabinet, including one focused on crime. David Thurton, CBC News, Ottawa.

Pierre Paulyev says the Conservative opposition will be holding the new government to account and will oppose the decisions that are bad for Canadians. The Conservative leader says there are too many prominent names in cabinet who served under Justin Trudeau. But he promises Conservative support for actions that are in the interests of the country, and he encouraged Carney to, quote, steal his ideas on things like housing, inflation, and crime. In the trial of five former World Junior hockey players,

the cross-examination of the complainant, known as EM, has come to an end. The five defendants have pleaded not guilty to sexual assault in connection with an incident in 2018. Aliceie Chiesin has the latest from the court in London, Ontario. – Defense counsel for Cal Foot, Juliana Greenspan, questioned EM's level of intoxication. She takes the court back to Jack's bar, showing security footage from inside to a moment where EM is talking to the bouncer, who was a friend of hers. Greenspan says she looks animated and excited and quote, not drunk out of your mind, but excited to tell your friend about who she had met.

At one point, Greenspan pulls out a strappy high heel shoe. It's a replica of the shoes EM wore the night of the alleged assault, suggesting that they're not easy to put on, not easy to run in, or skip up the steps of the hotel as she's seen doing in hotel security footage. EM has testified that she's just good at walking in heels. Greenspan has wrapped up her cross-examination, so that's it for EM, who has been on the stand for seven straight days.

The Crown will resume calling other witnesses tomorrow. Ali Chiasan, CBC News, London, Ontario. He warned the US would inflict maximum pressure if a nuclear agreement isn't reached. He also says he's moving to lift sanctions on Syria and normalize relations with that country. Ukraine's president Vladimir Zelensky says he'll be in Turkey on Thursday waiting for Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The Ukrainian leader says if talks fail, he expects to see sanctions on Russia from the U.S. and European Union. He's also invited President Trump to join the meeting, but Trump is sending his Secretary of State Marco Rubio instead. Putin has not said whether he'll show up. And that is Your World This Hour.
