featuring the music of Rachmaninoff.

From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Neil Herland. Prime Minister Mark Carney holds his
first cabinet meeting Wednesday since winning the federal election. Carney says his new cabinet has a mandate to deliver urgent change.
As David Thurton reports, part of that change means making life more affordable.
But there are two elements to cost-efficiency.
One is the actual cost of things, and the other is our people's salaries growing.
Prime Minister Mark Carney listing some of the things he's promising Canadians.
Carney just won an election dominated by Donald Trump's trade war.
But many of Carney's remarks, after presenting his new cabinet, focused on helping Canadians
make ends meet.
Most immediately with the middle class tax cut, we will act by Canada Day.
Carney also committed to boosting Canada's housing supply, aggressively doubling the
pace of building, leading that
effort as the new Housing Minister, former Mayor of Vancouver, Gregor Robertson.
Conservative leader Pierre Pauliap wasted no time criticizing Robertson's record.
...giving Vancouver, his city, the most expensive housing prices in all of North America.
If this is the new blood that Mr. Carney is bringing into the cabinet,
nothing is going to change.
Carney defended Robertson saying he is familiar with the solutions needed.
David Thurton, CBC News, Ottawa.
Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to the Vatican this weekend
to attend the inaugural mass of the new Pope Leo.
It will take place Sunday in St. Peter's Square.
Carney did not attend the funeral of Pope Francis
because it was held during the final days of the federal election.
The UN Security Council met late Tuesday
to discuss ways to improve the delivery of aid to Gaza.
Israel has blocked all shipments since March 2nd.
Riyad Mansour is the Palestinian ambassador to the UN.
Because Israel has been openly and brazenly blocking humanitarian aid for over two months now,
this is engineered starvation. It is the most inhumane form of torture and killing.
Dani Danon is the Israeli ambassador to the UN.
He says aid from the United Nations has been stolen by Palestinian militants.
The aid you sent, the aid your taxpayers funded, the aid you believed would help civilians,
the aid marked by UN and UNRWA emblems, it was used to feed terrorists, to massacre women
and children.
Israel will not allow that to continue. It was used to feed terrorists, to massacre women and children.
Israel will not allow that to continue.
The United States and Israel are proposing a new way to deliver aid using private companies,
but the UN aid chief says he doesn't like that plan.
We're following a major legal story in Los Angeles tonight.
A superior court judge has just re-sentenced Eric and Lyle Menendez to 50 years for murdering their parents.
The case sparked a wave of true crime stories and even a Netflix series last year.
Steve Futterman reports.
The ruling means that Eric and Lyle Menendez, who have already served more than 35 years in prison,
are immediately eligible for parole.
The judge's decision came after both brothers,
speaking by a video link from their prison,
took full responsibility for their actions,
sometimes describing in graphic detail
how the killings took place.
Their attorney Mark Garagos said
the judge did the right thing.
I just know that on a day like today,
that redemption is possible.
Today is a great day after 35 years. The brothers'
first cousin, Anna Maria Barrault, was one of many family members who urged their release.
She testified during the hearing. Afterwards, she thanked the Menendez legal team.
You have brought hope to this family that we didn't see coming.
Even if a parole board rules that the brothers should be released, California Governor Gavin
Newsom does have the power to reject it.
Steve Futterman for CBC News, Los Angeles.
Now to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Healers to Morrissey and the Stars will put the President's Trophy winners on the brink.
The Dallas Stars beat the Winnipeg Jets tonight in game four of their second round series,
final score 3-1.
Dallas now leads the series 3-1.
And that is your World This Hour.
