The final results from one of the closest races in the federal election could take days. A judicial recount is underway in Newfoundland and Labrador in the riding
Starting point is 00:00:48 of Terranova's The Peninsulas. More than 1,000 ballots are being disputed. Heather Gillis reports. Three days in and there's still no result in the recount in Terranova, The Peninsulas. On election night, Roe was leading for most of the evening, but then Jermain started to catch up, pulling ahead slightly towards the end of the night. With one poll of special ballots remaining, the vote was paused. When counting resumed the following day, Germain, the liberal, had won. It was the tightest margin of victory in the country at the time. Just 12 votes. A win so tight, it automatically triggered a recount. The vote recounting
Starting point is 00:01:26 started at St. Gabriel's Hall on Monday. Lawyers presented arguments about disputed ballots to Supreme Court Judge Garrett Handrigan. Handrigan is overseeing this recount. In Toronto, prices have slipped 16% from the market peak in 2022. In Vancouver, they're down 9%. Still, economists forecast that in some markets, condo prices could fall another 10% this year. Nisha Patel, CBC News, Toronto. The haka is a ceremonial dance often seen on the sports field by millions around the world before big matches by New Zealand teams.
Starting point is 00:03:01 But a political party in the country has found itself in hot water after performing the dance in parliament to protest a bill. Georgie Smythe explains. In New Zealand's parliament, a member of the Te Pari Maori Party begins performing the traditional haka song and dance while tearing up a draft bill that sought to reinterpret New Zealand's founding document, the Treaty of Waitangi. This happened in November, but a 21 and 7 day ban for the three participants has just been handed down.
Starting point is 00:03:36 Judith Collins, the head of the committee that recommended the punishment, says the decisions were not made lightly. And we've never seen action like this in Parliament. The bill the group was protesting, which sought to change the rights of Maori and non-Maori in the country, was eventually defeated, but not before sparking massive protests across New Zealand. The decision of whether to carry out the temporary suspension of the Maori Party members will be voted on next week.
