Manitoba continues to combat

spreading wildfires. Forty firefighters from B.C. are assisting, but the province is asking for more backup. This loss of life changes what was an emergency into a tragedy. The day after the bodies of two people trapped by a Lactobonnie wildfire northeast of Winnipeg were recovered. Premier Wabkanoo is pleading with Manitobans. No fires, please. Several large, out-of-control wildfires

continue to burn in southeastern Manitoba, near the Ontario border. That's where the province is declaring a state of emergency in one of Manitoba's largest parks, Whiteshell Provincial Park. Evacuations there are already underway. Reeve of the RM of Lactobani, Lauren Schenkel, says it's devastating. Goes without saying the loss of life in that area. It just, you know, you can't really describe it in words.

Police say they continue to investigate the deaths. Rosanna Hempel, CBC News, Winnipeg. Bloc Quebecois leader Yves-Francois Blanchet is calling for a do-over in Montreal area riding of Turbonne. Not another recount but a whole new election. The situation is quite clear. The judge has established that the Bloc Québécois would have lost the riding by one vote. The vote appeared in the hands of a citizen. In that situation, the law requires the election to be done all over again. Elections Canada gave the writing to a Liberal candidate after a recount showed she won by one vote.

But the agency admits an error resulted in at least one ballot for the Bloc Québécois not being counted. Blanchet says the party will be bringing its challenge before a judge to decide. Conservative leader Pierre Polyev is demanding the Liberal government produce a full budget now instead of an economic statement this fall. Polyev says he's disappointed by that and says it will have consequences for Prime Minister Mark Carney. He'll send a bad signal to investors and ratings agencies and a lot of people will wonder what the

Liberal government is hiding about our finances. Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne says the government's plan is to deliver a middle-class tax cut, then the throne speech to outline the government's actions. It will be followed by the economic statement this fall. Indigenous leaders in Alberta are pushing back against talk of separatism. Onion Lake Cree Nation has announced it's reviving a constitutional challenge to an Alberta law that it says threatens treaty rights. Page Parsons reports. Her government is willing to manipulate laws, intimidate First Nations and control public

opinion to push the separatist agenda. Onion Lake Cree Nation Okima or Chief Henry Lewis says his nation is moving ahead with a constitutional challenge launched three years ago to premier Daniel Smith's Alberta's Sovereignty Within a United Canada Act. Onion Lake argues it threatens treaty rights. It's now demanding Alberta file a statement of defense. Many First Nations also object to new legislation that could make it easier for Albertans to force a referendum on separating from Canada.

Calgary political scientist Laurie Williams says last-minute amendments the province is making to the bill are a move in the right direction. The number of measles cases in Ontario has jumped by 182 over the past week.

The province now has more than 1,600 confirmed and probable cases. Southwestern Ontario remains the epicenter of the outbreak. But cases have also been detected elsewhere in the province, and Alberta has now surpassed 400 measles cases after reporting 14 new infections.
