We begin in Rome where Prime Minister Mark
Carney met with several European leaders today, including the president of the
European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. We are always there for each other. This
is our experience with you and joining forces. I want to thank you. I want to
thank Canada for being from day one on the staunch support
of Ukraine in Russia's post-war against the country.
Carney is in Rome for tomorrow's inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV.
A shipping accident in the East River in Brooklyn, New York has left multiple people injured,
some critically.
Video posted to social media shows the moment a Mexican tall ship with 277 people on board
lost its way and crashed underneath the iconic Brooklyn Bridge, shearing off the ship's mass
that then fell down on deck.
Wilson Aramboles is chief of special operations for the New York City Police Department.
The ship was departing from Pier 17 where it was heading out to sea.
The pilot, the captain that was maneuvering the ship lost, I guess, power of the ship in the current.
Mechanical function caused the ship to go right into the pillar of the bridge,
hitting the mass of the ship where there was a couple of sailors on top of it.
Authorities confirm a total of 19 people were injured, four critically.
The Brooklyn Bridge was spared major damage.
An explosion outside a fertility clinic in California is being called intentional.
One person was killed and four others injured from the explosion that rocked the upscale city
of Palm Springs. Several buildings were damaged, some severely. Akil Davis is with the FBI.
Make no mistake, this is an intentional act of terrorism. The FBI is investigating it as such. Our joint
terrorism task force is here working in lockstep with the Palm Springs Police
Department, the ATF and a whole host of agencies that have already mentioned.
Authorities say they have a person of interest and that the fertility clinic
was the target. No one inside the clinic was injured. To the Stanley Cup playoffs,
the Cup quest is over for the Winnipeg Jets.
Back to the next, second to Holly Stars!
Double-tied wins the series for Dallas!
As seen on CBC and Roger Sportsnet,
the Dallas Stars scored on the power play
early into the first overtime to beat the Jets 2-1 in Dallas to win their Western Conference Semifinal in six games.
Kitchener Ontario native Mark Shieffley scored the lone goal for the Jets and carried a
heavy heart into the game following the passing of his father Brad last night.
The Stars now will face the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Final.
Saturday marked the final of the Eurovision singing contest.
The annual competition has been around
for more than seven decades.
This year's winner hails from Austria.
