In this acclaimed new production of Anna Karenina,
the National Ballet of Canada asks,
what is fair in love and society?
Renowned choreographer, Christian Spook adapts Tolstoy's epic novel to dance
in a spectacular work complete with lush costumes,
cinematic projections, and a glorious curated score,
featuring the music of Rachmaninoff.
On stage June 13th to 21st, tickets on sale now at national.ballet.ca
sponsored by IG Private Wealth Management.
From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Claude Fague. We begin in Brooklyn, New York. In a video posted to social media, the sound of two masts from a tall ship hitting the
bottom of the Brooklyn Bridge could be heard before snapping off.
A Mexican Navy tall ship was cruising in the East River as part of a festive visit to New
York.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has now confirmed the total of 19 people were injured, with
two succumbing
to their injuries.
The ship carrying a total of 277 people is part of a multi-country cruise reportedly
lost power as it left the port.
16 wildfires are still burning in Manitoba.
The largest has already scorched an area about twice the size of Winnipeg. Firefighters are getting some help thanks to spring rain and cooler temperatures.
Riley Lechuk reports.
We were out doing a rain dance on the deck last night.
The sound of rain welcomed to the ears of many in eastern Manitoba,
providing much needed relief for firefighters battling several out of control wildfires.
In Lactobani, that meant some, like Kathy Austin, could return home.
We're very fortunate, very, very fortunate.
Austin was among more than a thousand people forced out
as flames tore through, fanned by hot, dry and windy weather.
Meantime, crews in Manitoba and Ontario continue to also battle
another large fire straddling the provincial
border.
They are getting help from 80 firefighters from British Columbia.
And while it may be cooler, firefighters are still at the mercy of strong winds.
It's still not known when others may be able to return to their homes or what's left of
them as fire crews hope for more rain.
Riley Lechuk, CBC News, Winnipeg.
Search teams of at least 100 people continue to try and find two missing Nova Scotia children.
Six-year-old Lily Sullivan and her four-year-old brother Jack were last seen on May the 2nd.
They're believed to be in Pictou County forest.
This is their stepfather, Daniel Martel.
I'm just hoping for anything, man, anything positive.
I've had just so much negativity over the last two weeks.
I'm just hoping for something positive, a positive outcome that's bringing the kids home.
That's the main goal here. It's the main goal.
It's just to find the truth, man.
The search efforts will continue into Sunday.
Israel has launched a major
operation in Gaza. Officials say the military is ramping up attacks to pressure Hamas to release
remaining hostages. And as the ceasefire talks resume, Philip Leishanek reports. Code named
Gideon's Chariots, Israel's defense forces say its military operation is aimed at seizing strategic areas in the Gaza Strip.
And again, the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Gattarez,
who is at the Arab League Summit, called for an end to the Israeli blockade of aid into Gaza.
The situation of Palestinians is beyond description, beyond atrocious.
The policy of siege and starvation makes a mockery of international law.
U.S. President Donald Trump just returned from the Gulf region where he suggested Gaza be declared a
freedom zone. Former Israeli government advisor Alam Pinkes says Trump appears to be putting
pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu needs to end the war. The only person that can make him end the war is Donald Trump.
But he worries Trump will get distracted by other issues and allow a ceasefire to slip away.
Philip LeChanock, CBC News, Toronto.
Winnipeg Jets' hopes of a Stanley Cup this season are over. The Jets were beaten 2-1 in overtime
by the Dallas Stars in Game 6 of their Western Conference Semi-Final Series in Texas tonight. The loss coming just hours after star center Mark Shieffley
learned of the passing of his father Brad the night before.
Shieffley was warmly consoled by Stars players in the handshake line
following the loss.
Now the Stars will move on to face the Edmonton Oilers
in the Western Conference Final.
That's a rematch from last year.
And that is your World This Hour.
For CBC News, I'm Claude Fague.
