From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Julianne Hasewood. Joe Biden's office as the former
U.S. president has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, which has spread to his bones. That
announcement coming late Sunday afternoon. Katie Simpson is tracking
the story from Washington.
Katie Simpson's office is calling an aggressive form of prostate cancer. The news being shared
by the former president in a statement, it reads, last week, President Joe Biden was
seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday,
he was diagnosed with prostate cancer with metastasis to the bone. The
president and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.
Biden will have access to some of the best medical care in the US, if not the
world. The 82 year old left office earlier this year. He of course dropped
his re-election bid months before the last election over concerns about
his health and fitness.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control says among men, prostate cancer is the second most
common type of cancer, with age being a key risk factor.
Biden is reportedly spending the weekend at home with his family in Delaware as he figures
out what to do next.

Tens of thousands gathered at the Vatican today for the inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV.
As Tom Perry reports, official delegations from around the world, including Canada, were
there.
St. Peter's Square, filled with pilgrims, gathered under sunny skies to hear the words of the
new pope, Leo XIV.
The new pontiff telling the faithful that in this inaugural mass he feels the spiritual
presence of his predecessor Pope Francis.
In the crowd, leaders and dignitaries from around the world, including
Canada. Prime Minister Mark Carney has used part of his time here meeting with European
allies. In advance of the G7 summit, he'll host in Cananascus, Alberta next month.
To help lead a world that is being reshaped to the advantage of Canadians and in the spirit
of today's proceedings, to the advantage of all in the world. All corners of the world were represented in St. Peter's Square today to see a new pope carry on an ancient tradition.

Israel says it will allow some humanitarian aid into Gaza after nearly a three-month blockade.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
says his cabinet approved a decision
to allow a basic amount of food into the territory.
There's no timeline as to when that aid will start flowing.
Netanyahu added allowing aid would
allow Israel to expand its latest ground operations in Gaza.
Ukrainian officials say Russia has launched its largest drone
attack yet.
Hundreds of the flying vehicles striking across Ukraine.
It comes ahead of tomorrow's planned call between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

Residents in Kiev region survey the damage caused by this morning's drone strike.
Among them is 65-year-old Liubov.
Her home was badly damaged.
My parents built the house, she says.
I have been living here my entire life until now.
Now I have no roof over my head.
This was Russia's biggest drone attack since the full-scale invasion began.
More than 270 drones targeted several regions, including the central Kiev region.
One woman was killed in the barrage and at least three others were injured.
The large-scale attack follows Friday's peace talks between Russia and Ukraine and came
ahead of tomorrow's telephone meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin, during which the two are expected to
