From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Neal Herland. Tens of thousands gathered at the
Vatican today for the inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV. As Tom Perry reports, Prime Minister Mark Carney was there.
St. Peter's Square filled with pilgrims gathered under sunny skies
to hear the words of the new pope, Leo XIV.
The new pontiff telling the faithful that in this inaugural mass,
he feels the spiritual presence of his predecessor, Pope Francis.
In the crowd, leaders and dignitaries from around the world, including Canada,
Prime Minister Mark Carney has used part of his time here meeting with European allies,
in advance of the G7 summit he'll host in Cananaskis, Alberta next month to help lead a world that is
being reshaped to the advantage of Canadians and to the
advantage of all in the world.

Former U.S. president Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
It has spread to the bone but is believed to be manageable. His office says the Biden family is
assessing treatment options. Last year Biden dropped out of the presidential race amid concerns
over his mental competency. In Portugal, the governing right-of-center coalition has just won a snap legislative
election but again fallen short of a majority in parliament.
But the opposition Socialist Party is in turmoil, with its leader announcing his resignation
after it ended up tying with the relatively new Far-Right Chega party.
Alison Robert reports from Lisbon tonight.
The Democratic Alliance of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro increased its seat tally,
but still lacks a majority, even if it teams up with the smaller liberal initiative. Still,
in an address to supporters, the victor promised to get back to work, stimulating investment in order to bring prosperity and
social justice. Portugal's non-executive president will hold
talks with all the parties before asking anyone to form a government. Meanwhile, it's unclear
who will lead the opposition as the Socialist Party, historically dominant in Portuguese
politics, now has the same number of seats as far-right Chega,
which campaigned against immigration and corruption.
Chega's leader, André Ventura, declared this historic election
as marking the end of two-party politics in Portugal.

An evacuation order has been partially lifted for Lactubane, Manitoba.
A wildfire killed two residents who were trapped in their homes.
As Ian Fraser reports, several fires are still burning in the province.
That area has been deemed safe now.
The wildfire that swept through Lactubane has started to ease a little.
After nearly a week, around 100 to 150 evacuees can return home.
Lauren Schinkel is Lac du Bonnet's reef.
The town lifted part of its evacuation order late Sunday afternoon, but 850 more still
have to wait.
A little relief for a community that's lost property and lives.
A married couple died last week, trapped by the fast-moving fire.
However, southeastern Manitoba remains on high alert.
Several fires in the area are still raging.
Some feel lucky they made it out.
Environment Canada says there's no rain in the upcoming forecasts,
but the cooler temperatures and calmer winds will help.
Ian Frays, CBC News, Winnipeg. In the Stanley Cup hockey play-offs,
it's do or die tonight for the Toronto Maple Leafs. They're facing the Florida Panthers in
Game 7 of their second-round series. Right now Florida is ahead 5-1 in the third period.
The winner will move on to the Eastern Conference Final against the Carolina Hurricanes. And that is your World This Hour. For
CBC News, I'm Neal Hurland.
