From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Neal Herland. Former U.S. President Joe Biden has
been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer and it's now
spread to his bones. Dr. Peter Black is director of the Vancouver Prostate Center. There's a broad
spectrum of prostate cancer from very early relatively harmless disease to something that's
high risk and has already spread. So Joe Biden fits in that latter group is probably the highest
risk of what we can diagnose. So his prognosis,
I would say, is relatively poor in that we cannot cure this typically.
And tonight, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posted on the platform X, Joe, I'm
thinking about you and Jill today. You've always been a fighter, my friend. I am praying
for your full and speedy recovery.
U.S. President Donald Trump will speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin
on Monday morning.
They'll discuss the war in Ukraine and how to stop it.
Trump had offered to travel to Turkey last week for face-to-face talks with
Putin,
but the Russian leader declined.
In Portugal, the governing right-of-center coalition has just won a
snap legislative election,
but again fallen short
of a majority in parliament.
Meantime, a party that campaigned against immigration saw its support rise.
Alison Roberts reports from Lisbon tonight.
The Democratic alliance of Prime Minister Luis Montenegro increased its seat tally, but still lacks a majority, even if it teams up with the smaller Liberal Initiative.
Still, in an address to supporters, the victor promised to get back to work,
stimulating investment in order to bring prosperity and social justice.
Portugal's non-executive president will hold talks with all the parties before asking anyone to form a government. of prosperity and social justice. campaigned against immigration and corruption. Chega's leader, André Ventura, declared this historic election as marking the end of two-party
politics in Portugal.

A massive rail strike in New Jersey is coming to an end.
Four hundred and fifty New Jersey transit engineers walked off the job last week, but
tonight their union reached a tentative deal. Phil Murphy is the governor of New Jersey Transit engineers walked off the job last week, but tonight their union reached a tentative deal.
Phil Murphy is the Governor of New Jersey.
New Jersey's first rail strike in decades has officially come to an end.
Starting Tuesday, May 20th, NJ Transit will once again provide rail service.
Many Canadians who fly into Newark Airport use the New Jersey trains to get into New
York City. Well it was a crushing loss tonight for Toronto hockey fans the
Maple Leafs are now eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Florida Panthers
beat the Leafs 6-1 in game 7 of their second round series. The CBC's Greg Ross
is at Scotiabank Arena. Embarrassing. It was an embarrassing loss in game seven for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
There's no doubt about that.
Made worse by the fact that this is the second straight game on home ice that the Leafs lose
six to one.
So outscored their final two home games of this series and it really erases a very good
performance in game six on the road that forced this game seven.
I think all fans are going to be thinking about was just how poorly the Leafs played because remember this core group of players has been
together for a decade now. They've been to the playoffs nine straight years with their core
players. I'm talking about Austin Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, John DeVaris,
year after year after year. They make it to the playoffs and things just
seem to change you don't want to go out on a game that your fans are just
frustrated there were fans who were throwing their jerseys on the ice at
the end of this game there were booze starting in the second period of this
game and they continued right through the third period lots of frustration
from the fans the CBC's Greg Ross in Toronto tonight.
And the Edmonton Oilers are now the only Canadian team left in the playoffs.
And that is your World This Hour.
For CBC News, I'm Neil Hurlind.
