Hypersonic missiles, ballistic missiles and advanced cruise missiles, all of them will be knocked out of the air. Donald Trump says his project to build a so-called golden dome will cost about $175 billion U.S. He's expecting the missile defence shield to be completed before the end of his term. The president also says Canada wants to partner with the U.S. Canada has called us and they want to be a part of it.
Starting point is 00:01:05 So we'll be talking to them. They want to have protection also. So as usual we help Canada do the best we can. Trump did not provide further details on a potential partnership. The Prime Minister's office though confirms that Ottawa is discussing ways to strengthen NORAD with the Americans, including initiatives like the Golden Dome. Officials in Gaza say dozens of people were killed in Israeli airstrikes Tuesday. The fight against Hamas and a blockade of the territory is starting to test the support of international allies.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Canada, the UK and France are threatening concrete action if Israel doesn't end its renewed military offensive. Vanessa Lee reports. End this blockade now and let the age in. In the British Parliament, Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced Britain has paused trade negotiations with Israel and sanctioned West Bank settlers. Despite our efforts, this Israeli government's egregious actions and rhetoric have continued. It's not known what concrete actions Canada may take.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Prime Minister Mark Carney did not take questions as he left his office in Ottawa to meet with his cabinet. It could include sanctions on extremist settlers, it could include further suspensions of weapons sales. Thomas Junot is a professor at the University of Ottawa's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. He says whatever Canada does will have little impact on Israeli politics. Really the one and only international player that can have an impact on the Israeli calculus is the United States. Israel says it will press ahead until all Israeli hostages are released and Hamas is

A Toronto school board is mourning the loss of three students who died in a tragic weekend collision allegedly caused by an impaired driver. The Toronto Catholic District School Board confirmed that support and counselling is being offered to its students and staff. The 19-year-old driver was allegedly speeding and is facing 12 charges. He remains in custody awaiting his next court appearance in June. The Canadian High Commission in London had
Starting point is 00:03:15 some royal company Tuesday. King Charles and Queen Camilla were on hand to celebrate the Commission's 100th anniversary ahead of their trip to Canada next week. Briar Stewart has more. A crowd of students and tourists lined the sidewalk of Trafalgar Square and cheered as King Charles and Queen Camilla stepped out of a car and into Canada House, the grand building in central London that's home to Canada's High Commission.
Starting point is 00:03:42 The Royals visited to commemorate its 100th anniversary. Harry Belgaard is the former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations and the honorary president of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. Canada is a constitutional monarchy, and so for him to come to do the throne speech next Tuesday is very powerful. Charles' visit to Canada will be brief, just two days, but it will be symbolic. It will be his first trip to Canada as King. He was recently invited by the government to deliver the throne speech.
Starting point is 00:04:17 The last time a reigning monarch did so was in 1977. Briar Stewart, CBC News, London. Canada's inflation rate fell to 1.7 percent last month from 2.3 in March. StatsCan says the falling price of gasoline is the biggest factor. On average, gas prices are down about 18 percent, due mainly to the removal of the consumer carbon tax and the global drop in oil prices. Food prices, though, continue to rise faster than any other consumer product.
