Starting point is 00:00:43 Officials in Gaza say dozens of people were killed in Israeli airstrikes Tuesday. The fight against Hamas and a blockade of the territory is starting to test the support of international allies. Canada, the UK and France are threatening concrete action if Israel doesn't end its renewed military offensive. Vanessa Lee reports. End this blockade now and let the end in. In the British parliament, Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced Britain has paused trade negotiations with Israel and sanctioned West Bank settlers.
Starting point is 00:01:13 Despite our efforts, this Israeli government's egregious actions and rhetoric have continued. It's not known what concrete actions Canada may take. Prime Minister Mark Carney did not take questions as he left his office in Ottawa to meet with his cabinet. It could include sanctions on extremist settlers. It could include further suspensions of weapon sales. Thomas Junot is a professor at the University of Ottawa's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. He says whatever Canada does will have little impact on Israeli politics.
Starting point is 00:01:44 Really the one and only international player that can have an impact on the Israeli calculus is the United States. Israel says it will press ahead until all Israeli hostages are released and Hamas is eliminated. Vanessa Lee, CBC News, Montreal. Now to the Oval Office. Hypersonic missiles, ballistic missiles and advanced cruise missiles, all of them will be knocked out of the air. Donald Trump says his project to build a so-called golden dome will cost about $175 billion U.S. He's expecting the missile defence shields to be completed before the end of his term. The president also claims Canada wants to partner with the U.S.
Starting point is 00:02:23 Canada has called us and they want to be a part of it. So we'll be talking to them. They want to have protection also. So as usual, we help Canada do the best we can. Trump did not provide further details on a potential partnership. The prime minister's office, though, confirmed that Ottawa is discussing ways to strengthen NORAD with the Americans, including initiatives like the Golden Dome. Canada's inflation rate fell to 1.7% last month from 2.3 in March.
Starting point is 00:02:53 StatsCan says the falling price of gasoline is the biggest factor. It's down about 18% due mainly to the removal of the consumer carbon tax and the global drop in oil prices. But food prices continue to rise faster than any other consumer product. The Canadian High Commission in London had some royal company on Tuesday. King Charles and Queen Camilla were on hand to celebrate the Commission's 100th anniversary, just ahead of the couple's trip to Canada next week. Briar Stewart has more.
Starting point is 00:03:25 A crowd of students and tourists lined the sidewalk of Trafalgar Square and cheered as King Charles and Queen Camilla stepped out of a car and into Canada House, the grand building in central London that's home to Canada's High Commission. The Royals visited to commemorate its 100th anniversary. Harry Belgaard is the former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations and the honorary president of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. Canada is a constitutional monarchy and so for him to come to do the throne speech next Tuesday is very powerful.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Charles' visit to Canada will be brief, just two days, but it will be symbolic. It will be his first trip to Canada as king. He was recently invited by the government to deliver the throne speech. The last time a reigning monarch did so was in 1977. Briar Stewart, CBC News, London. Police have found a bust of Doors front frontman Jim Morrison that was stolen nearly four decades ago from his Paris grave. Police posted on Instagram that the bust was found during an unrelated investigation.
