Starting point is 00:00:41 My government is fighting to get the best deal for Canada. Mark Carney says the next few weeks will be crucial. The Prime Minister has released a letter outlining his mandate following the end of a two-day cabinet retreat. Priorities include bolstering Canada's economy and shaping a new trade partnership with the U.S. Carney says it will be guided by Canadian interests. We are in a position now where we cooperate when necessary but not necessarily cooperate. You will see a very different set of partnerships, security and economic, going forward. One of those security partnerships could involve Donald Trump's proposed Golden Dome project. Carney confirms Canada is looking at potential investments into the US$175 billion missile defense system. Canada
Starting point is 00:01:26 Post has rejected the Union's offer of a two-week truce ahead of a looming strike on Friday. The truce would have delayed job action but Canada Post says it's committed to negotiating and further delay is in no one's interest. The Crown Corporation delivered its latest proposal to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers today. It includes wage increases and benefit protections, which the union says it will review. The ministers in charge of the world's seven advanced economies are meeting in the Alberta Rockies. Karina Roman has more from Banff.

Canada's Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne and Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem welcome their U.S. counterparts Scott Bessent and Jerome Powell. While there are seven countries at the G7 table, everyone here is keenly aware that the one with the most impact on the success of this week's summit is the United States, with its ever-changing tariff and trade actions continually upending global economic stability.

Champagne says the overall goal for the G7 finance ministers is to bring back financial stability, but how that will be achieved when the biggest player at the table is the reason for all the uncertainty remains unclear. But instead, he had to confront baseless

Well, that reset needed after Donald Trump's repeated claims that white South African farmers are being persecuted.

They're taking people's land away and in many cases those people are being executed. The South African delegation politely pushed back on that, but big questions linger about the state of relations between the two nations, including whether President Trump will take part in G20 meetings set to be held in South Africa in November. Starting point is 00:04:14 a visit by foreign diplomats to the West Bank. Representatives of several countries were on a pre-arranged visit to the city of Jenin. Israel says the delegation deviated from an approved route and troops fired warning shots as a result.
