How did the internet go from this?
You could actually find what you were looking for right away,
bound to this.
I feel like I'm in hell.
Spoiler alert, it was not an accident.
I'm Cory Doctorow, host of Who Broke the Internet
from CBC's Understood.
In this four-part series, I'm going to tell you
why the internet sucks now, whose fault it is,
and my plan to fix it. Find Who Broke
the Internet on whatever terrible app you get your podcasts.
From CBC News, it's the world this hour. I'm Joe Cummings. The G7 finance ministers wrap
up their summit in Banff, Alberta today with the ministers
and central bankers on hand, looking to reach a consensus on a range of global economic
issues.
Karina Romen has more.
We get along very well.
Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne, fresh out of his bilateral meeting with US
Treasury Secretary Scott Besant.
We took the time to discuss a number of issues.
But Champagne wouldn't say what those issues were or whether they included tariffs.
Even as Canada seeks closer ties to Europe, the solo sit-down with the U.S.'s Besant
was the coveted one.
John Manley, a former deputy prime minister and finance minister, says it's an important
relationship to forge. That's not just a lot of people call him the adult in the room and and he's someone that
Francois Philippe Champagne needs to befriend if he possibly can.
It's anyone's guess whether what Bessent agrees to here will last beyond President Donald Trump's
next impromptu tariff declaration. Champagne says the principal goal of this summit is to return stability to the global
economy.
Karina Roman, CBC News, Banff, Alberta.
Meanwhile, today Stellantis has announced it's putting the production of its Canadian-made
Charger Daytona on hold for the 2026 model year.
The company says it needs time to assess the effects of U.S. tariffs.
The electric vehicle had been scheduled to be produced at the Stellantis assembly plant
in Windsor, Ontario.
The company is saying no jobs will be affected.
Pressure appears to be mounting on Conservative leader Pierre Poliev to fire his national
campaign manager, Jenny Byrne.
Radio Canada has spoken to 12 Conservative caucus members who say many in the party are
blaming Byrne for the Conservatives' election defeat.
There are complaints of what's being called her, quote, toxic behavior at campaign headquarters,
with others saying there was poor communication between her office and Conservative teams
in the field.
In what the Israeli government is calling a dangerous escalation of anti-Semitism, two
employees of the Israeli embassy in Washington
were shot and killed last night outside the Capitol Jewish Museum.
A 31-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene
and was heard shouting,
Free Palestine, as he was being taken into custody.
Richard Madden reports.
There's heavy police presence outside this Jewish Museum
here in the heart of the district.
It's just a few blocks from the Capitol and the White House. This is that deadly and horrific scene of
the shooting last night that claimed the lives of two young staffers with the Israeli embassy.
Police say the suspect allegedly approached them and another group of people who were
all leaving a multi-faith event and opened fire and eyewitness described what happened next.
He's like I did this for Gaza, free Palestine, there's only one solution, interfaith revolution.
Now the victims have since been identified as Yaron Leshinsky and Sarah Milgram. These were
two young staffers from the Israeli embassy who were about to be engaged. Authorities have also
identified the suspect Elias Rodriguez of
Chicago. Now, police say he was spotted pacing outside the museum before the shooting and walked
inside afterwards and was promptly detained by event security. Richard Madden, CBC News, Washington.
HOFFMAN Prime Minister Mark Carney says he expects Israel to investigate why members of the Israeli
military fired shots this week in the West Bank near a diplomatic delegation.
And it was a delegation that included Canadians.
The Israeli ambassador has been summoned to Global Affairs to see the minister and explain
we expect a full investigation.
We expect an immediate explanation of what happened.
It's totally unacceptable.
It's some of many things that are totally unacceptable that's going on in the region. Israel's military is insisting the diplomatic group deviated from an approved travel route
and ended up in a prohibited area, and it says the rounds fired were warning shots.
The PWHL final continues tonight in Ottawa with the charge looking to take a 2-0 lead over the Minnesota Frost.
Ottawa opened the Walter Cup best of five earlier this week with a 2-0 overtime win
in Game 1.
And that is the World This Hour.
For CBC News, I'm Joe Cummings.
