The election may be over, but that certainly doesn't mean things are settled on Parliament Hill,
and that gives At Issue a lot to talk about. I'm Rosemary Barton, CBC's Chief Political Correspondent,
and every week I'm joined by three of Canada's top political journalists,
Chantelle Baer, Andrew Coyne, and Althea Raj, to help you understand what's at stake as the
Liberals settled in for another minority and the Conservatives try to hold them to account.
Follow At Issue as we break down the biggest stories
in Canadian politics.
New podcasts every Friday.
From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Julianne Hasele Wood.
Investigators in Washington, DC are working to bring charges
against a suspect in the killing of two Israeli embassy workers.
Your own Leshinsky and Sarah Milgram were fatally shot yesterday after leaving an event at the
capital Jewish museum.
Police say the suspect, Elias Rodriguez, shouted, free Palestine, after being taken into custody.
Attorney General Pam Bondi denounced the attack.
Our Jewish community must feel safe.
What we saw last night was disgusting. The hate has got to stop and it has to stop now.
This person will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The suspect is expected to appear in court later today. Israeli and American officials are condemning the shooting as an act of anti-Semitism. Prime Minister Mark Carney says he's devastated and
appalled by the shootings. He's condemning what he calls a targeted
attack against the Jewish community, adding his government will fight
increasing hate crimes. He repeated the commitment he made on the campaign trail
to increase funding to the Canada Community Safety Program. Stellantis says
it's pausing the production of its Canadian-made electric Dodge Charger Daytona for
the 2026 model year. The company says it needs time to assess the effects of US tariffs. Industry
Minister Melanie Jolie says she's being told no jobs will be affected. I spoke to the CEO of
Stalantis this morning. He assured me that all jobs at Stellantis in Canada would be protected
and all conditions of workers would remain the same. The Stellantis assembly plant in Windsor,
Ontario will continue to produce several other models of the Dodge Charger. With no new deal
between Canada Post and its workers and no new talks scheduled,
we're less than 12 hours away now from a potential postal strike.
Nisha Patel reports.
The union representing about 55,000 Canada Post workers
says it's reviewing the latest proposal from the Postal Service
and is working on counteroffers.
The union is looking for a 19% pay bump over four years to catch up after years
of steep inflation.
Canada Post has offered more than 13 percent.
It also wants to hire more part-time staff.
They do see it as a slippery slope to a much smaller Canada Post and a much smaller union
as a consequence.
Business professor Ian Lee says the Crown Corporation has to make some changes.
It's under serious financial strain and has lost at least $3 billion since 2018.
Every parcel post that they deliver, every parcel, every courier, every letter they deliver is at a loss.
So they're out of runway.
Without an agreement, postal workers are set to return to the picket line at midnight Eastern.

Several people died after their small plane crashed into a San Diego neighbourhood early this morning.
It's not known how many people were on board, but officials say the Cessna aircraft can hold up to 10 people.
The crash set about 10 homes and some vehicles on fire,
prompting evacuations for several blocks.
San Diego Police Chief Scott Wall described the scene.
Jet fuel going down the street and everything on fire
all at once.
It was pretty horrific to see.
No one on the ground was injured.
Fire crews have put out the fires
and are investigating whether the plane hit a power line.
Canadian basketball legend Steve Nash is congratulating Shea Gilgis Alexander on his new title.
The Oklahoma City Thunder Point Guard was named the NBA's MVP yesterday.
Gilgis Alexander is only the second Canadian to win the title after Nash did it 20 years ago.
Nash says it signals the growth of the sport in Canada, and he's proud of what Gilgis Alexander has accomplished. It's amazing. This is a very special
moment for me. I genuinely get super excited to see his success and it's really probably my
favorite player to watch. Gilgis Alexander led the league in regular season scoring.
