Starting point is 00:00:00 In this acclaimed new production of Anna Karenina, the National Ballet of Canada asks, what is fair in love and society? Renowned choreographer Christian Spook adapts Tolstoy's epic novel to dance in a spectacular work complete with lush costumes, cinematic projections, and a glorious curated score, featuring the music of Rachmaninoff. On stage June 13th to 21st, tickets on sale now at national.ballet.ca sponsored by IG private wealth management. From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Claude Fague. It appears a threatened strike by Canada

The Crown Corporation released a statement earlier tonight confirming that it met with CupW with the assistance of mediators but that the meeting lasted less than a half hour with talks not leading to any meaningful progress. The Union has since released its own statement calling on its members to refuse overtime work as of 12 a.m. Eastern Time Friday. Tonight exceed 40 hours of work per week, but no mention of a possible strike. While there is shock and sorrow around the world over what U.S. officials are calling a targeted and anti-Semitic crime, a suspect is now charged with murder for the killing of two Israeli embassy staffers in Washington DC yesterday. Steve Jensen, the lead FBI agent on this case, says investigators are combing through the suspect's electronic devices, his social media posts, and trying to verify an apparent manifesto. Thirty-one-year-old Elias Rodriguez is now charged with first-degree murder, murder of foreign officials, and several other weapons charges.

And we will add additional charges as the evidence warrants. Court documents say he told police, I did it for Palestine, I did it for Gaza. Katie Simpson, CBC News, Washington. The Canadian government is condemning the murders in Washington and expressing concern about a rise in anti-Semitism. But as Marina von Stackelberg reports,
Starting point is 00:02:38 Ottawa's statements on the incident haven't eased the current diplomatic tension between Canada and Israel. I am absolutely appalled and horrified. Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand commented briefly. My thoughts are with their friends, their families and the broader Jewish community. But Anand did not take more questions about tense diplomatic relations between Israel and Canada. Earlier this week Canada, France and the UK released a sharp criticism of Israel. Those countries called on Israel to stop its military operations in Gaza. Now Israel is drawing a link between those criticisms with what happened in Washington.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directly called the leaders of the three countries out. You're on the wrong side of justice. I can think also about the menu of growth and enhancing policies that we have put on the table that we have discussed with international organizations. So we have achieved, I would say, when I look at where we are to where we are today and the journey ahead of us, we're on a good track. Ukraine's finance minister was also at the summit in action against Russia on the agenda. Champagne says blocking countries
Starting point is 00:04:18 who aided Russia's war effort from taking part in Ukraine's reconstruction was an important G7 achievement. The Trump administration has blocked Harvard University from enrolling foreign students taking part in Ukraine's reconstruction was an important G7 achievement. The Trump administration has blocked Harvard University from enrolling foreign students. And Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem says she's not ruling out similar action at other schools. The administration had accused America's oldest university of anti-Semitism.
Starting point is 00:04:40 Harvard calls the move unlawful and says it will affect thousands of its students. And that is your World This Hour. For CBC News, I'm Claude Fague.
