It appears a full blown strike by Canada Post union
workers starting at midnight Eastern tonight is on hold. The Crown
Corporation released a statement earlier tonight confirming that it met with Cup
W with the assistance of mediators but that the meeting lasted less than a
half hour with no talks leading to any meaningful progress. The union has since
released its own statement,
calling on its members coast to coast to refuse overtime work as of 12 a.m. Eastern time today,
to not exceed eight hours a day and 40 hours per week with threats of a possible strike
at a later time. There is shock and sorrow around the world over what U.S. officials are calling a targeted
anti-Semitic crime.
A suspect is now charged with murder for the killing of two Israeli embassy staffers in
Washington D.C. Wednesday night.
Katie Simpson has the latest.
30-year-old Yaron Leshinsky and 26-year-old Sarah Milgram were leaving an event organized
by an American Jewish advocacy group. Police say they were shot dead by a gunman who had been pacing back and
forth in front of the entrance. This attack was targeted anti-semitic violence
and it won't be tolerated. Steve Jensen, the lead FBI agent on this case, says
investigators are combing through the suspects electronic devices, his social
media posts, and trying to verify
an apparent manifesto. 31-year-old Elias Rodriguez is now charged with first-degree murder, murder
of foreign officials, and several other weapons charges. Interim D.C. Attorney Jeanine Pirro
expects more counts to be added.
We're going to continue to investigate this as a hate crime and a crime of terrorism.
And we will add additional charges as the evidence warrants. Court documents say he told police, I did it for Palestine. I did it for Gaza.

The Canadian government is condemning the murders in Washington and expressing concern
about a rise in anti-Semitism. but as Marina von Stackelberg reports, Ottawa's
statements on the incident haven't eased the current diplomatic tension between Canada
and Israel.
I am absolutely appalled and horrified.
Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand commented briefly.
My thoughts are with their friends, their families and the broader Jewish community.
But Anand did not take more questions about tense diplomatic relations between Israel and Canada.
Earlier this week, Canada, France and the UK released a sharp criticism of Israel.
Those countries called on Israel to stop its military operations in Gaza.
Now Israel is drawing a link between those criticisms
with what happened in Washington.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directly called the leaders of the three countries out.
You're on the wrong side of justice.
Now these leaders may think that they're advancing peace. They're not.
The relationship between the two countries getting more fraught by the day.
Marina von Stackelberg, CBC News, Ottawa.
Finance ministers from the G7 countries have wrapped up meetings in Banff.
Canada's Francois-Philippe Champagne says all agree to cooperate on several issues.
I can think about supply chain resiliency.
I can think about tackling financial crime.
I can think also about the menu of growth and enhancing policies that we have put on the table that we have discussed
with international organizations.
So we have achieved, I would say when I look at where we are to where we are today and
the journey ahead of us, we're on a good track.
Ukraine's finance minister was also at the summit in action against Russia on the agenda.
Champagne says blocking countries who aid Russia's war efforts from taking part in Ukraine's finance minister was also at the summit in action against Russia on the agenda. Champagne says blocking countries who aid Russia's war efforts from taking part in Ukraine's
reconstruction was an important G7 achievement.
For a second straight game, the PWHL final between Ottawa and Minnesota went to an overtime.
This time it was the visiting Frost who prevailed, scoring with just over three and a half minutes
remaining in the period to beat the charge 2-1, tying the Walter Cup
final at a game of peace. Game three shifts to Minnesota on Saturday. And that
is your World This Hour. For CBC News, I'm Claude Figg.
