So, how did the Liberals manage to win government while the Conservatives also boosted their
voter support with voters almost evenly split between the two?
And what will this mean for hopes of some cooperation on Parliament Hill this spring?
I'm Catherine Cullen and every Saturday on The House, we cut through the noise to make
politics make sense.

From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Julianne Hazelwood. A collision involving two SUVs
in a transport truck has killed five people. The latest death announced today. The crash
happened yesterday afternoon on a rural road east of London, Ontario.
Provincial Police Sergeant Ed Sanczak explains how it unfolded.
A sport utility vehicle collided with a transport truck, with that transport truck then colliding with a second SUV.
The occupants in the first SUV, a 33-year-old male, was pronounced deceased in hospital.
Two 17-year-old females, along with a 16-year-old female, were pronounced deceased on scene.
The fifth passenger, a 16-year-old female, was airlifted to hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he's devastated by the crash. A driver and passenger in the second
SUV in the Big Rigs driver suffered minor injuries. An Ontario man has been convicted in the 2023
murder of a provincial police officer. Sergeant Eric Mueller went
to Elim Belfroy's home to check on him. But Belfroy shot Mueller and two other officers
claiming self-defense. Criminal defense lawyer Nick Cake had this take on that argument.
Certainly, there was no air of reality to that defense when you look at the facts, when
you watch those body cameras, when you know that
there was 14 seconds between the time that the police entered the house and the first
shots came out. It's clear that the jury believed what the Crown was selling and that this was
an ambush.
Bellfoy was found guilty of attempted murder of the two other officers. The G7 summit is
just over three weeks away. That
means Canada is entering the final stages of preparation for a massive
security and logistics operation. And much has changed since the last time
Alberta's Kananaskis region hosted the G8 summit more than 20 years ago.
Joel Dryden has more. Thousands of delegates, journalists, and security
personnel will be spread out across Calgary
and the surrounding region.
And this year's summit presents challenges that weren't present in 2002.
John Curtin is director of the G7 Research Group at the University of Toronto.
This time the new thing they really have to deal with are drones.
Security officials have said they're taking steps to deal with threats such as drones.
The economy is also in focus.
G7 finance ministers and central bankers just concluded a meeting in Banff laying out the
groundwork for the summit.
Deborah Yedlin, Calgary Chamber President and CEO, emphasized the importance of trade
stability.
We need to see our global market stabilized from what will be discussed at the summit.
Leaders from the United States, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, Italy and Canada,
as well as the European Union, will attend this year's summit.
Joel Dryden, CBC News, Calgary.
Scientists who study the Gulf of St. Lawrence are noticing worrying trends.
The water near Quebec's North Shore is getting warmer and the ice thinner.
As Matt Moore reports, it can lead to dangerous conditions for marine life.
Scientists say water temperatures in the Gulf have been rising for years,
but 2024 was a record breaker.
The surface water temperature in July reached a peak of 16.7 degrees Celsius,
2.4 degrees higher than normal, the hottest ever recorded.
Peter Galbraith is a research scientist with Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
It was the warmest air temperature which gave us the warmest sea surface temperature.
Winter air temperature is warming about twice as fast.
And that is affecting ice coverage.
For the Northwest Atlantic Harp Seal, that's a problem.
Biologist Joannis Van de Waal says the animals depend on the ice to give birth and feed their young.
So we see that in years where there is very poor ice.
We see massive mortality events for the pups.
Scientists have also noticed a decline of small crustaceans that's worrying because
it could affect the food supply for herring, mackerel, and the North Atlantic right whale.
Matt Damoul, CBC News, Montreal.
In the PWH Health Finals later today, it's a pivotal third game between Ottawa and Minnesota.
The best of five series is tied at one game apiece, with both games in Ottawa decided
in overtime.
And that's your World This Hour.
For CBC News, I'm Juliane Hazelwood.
