A collision involving two SUVs in a transport truck has killed five people, all of them from a high school in Walkerton, attending a sporting event in London, Ontario. The crash happened yesterday afternoon on a rural road near London.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Provincial Police Sergeant Ed Sanchuk lays out the series of events. A sport utility vehicle collided with a transport truck, with that transport truck then colliding with a second SUV. The occupants in the first SUV, a 33-year-old male, was pronounced deceased in hospital. Two 17-year-old females, along with a 16-year-old female, were pronounced deceased on scene. The fifth passenger, a 16-year-old female, was airlifted to hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. Ontario
Starting point is 00:01:10 Premier Doug Ford says he's devastated by the crash. A driver and passenger in the second SUV in the Big Rigs driver suffered minor injuries. A jury has found an Ontario man guilty of first-degree murder in the 2023 death of a provincial police officer. Ellen Belfoy was also convicted of the attempted murder of two other officers. Sergeant Eric Mueller went to Belfoy's home after a concerned neighbor called for a wellness check. Mueller was killed when Belfoy repeatedly fired his rifle. Bill Dixon is a spokesperson for the Ontario Provincial Police. Today's verdict reinforces our focus on what Sergeant Mueller stood for and on wavering

It also acknowledges the life-changing impact felt by Provincial Constables Mark Lozan and Francois Guimard-Chazelin. Crucial evidence in the case came from the body cameras worn by the officers. Nine of a Gazan pediatrician's ten children were killed after an Israeli bomb strike on her home. It happened while she was working at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis. Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar's husband Hamdi and her son were the only survivors of the attack. Hamdi's niece, Sama, spoke to reporters shortly after.

The father and son remain in critical condition. Israeli army officials confirmed the bombing, saying the area is a dangerous war zone and that it was evacuated before the strike. They say the claim regarding harmed civilians is under review. The union in the Canada Post-Labour dispute says it's hoping to meet this weekend with

The union's 55,000 workers were in a legal strike position as of yesterday but chose to stay on the job. They are, however, refusing to work overtime so there may be disruptions to mail delivery. Donald Trump's health secretary is pushing back against a B.C. bird call. Hundreds of ostriches were ordered killed over concerns about avian flu. Janella Hamilton explains. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says he spoke with the president of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on Thursday to discuss the fate of 400 ostriches at Universal Ostrich Farm in
Starting point is 00:03:39 Edgewood where avian flu was detected last December. Kennedy, the American Health Secretary, asked the CFIA to consider not calling the entire flock. Among the reasons cited is the long-lived nature of the birds and the possibility that they may hold information about antibodies to avian flu. He also says the US would provide full support and assistance in research and retesting the birds. CBC News has reached out to the CFIA. Prior to the letter, the agency confirmed it would be moving ahead with the call and would not be retesting the ostriches. It comes as dozens of protesters rally around the West Kootenay farm calling for an end
