King Charles will be arriving in Canada to open a new session of parliament on Tuesday when he delivers his speech from the throne. Nicole Williams has more from Ottawa. Now the time has come for Her Majesty to read the speech from the throne. It will be only the third time a reigning monarch has done so. Charles's mother Queen Elizabeth II delivering the speech in 1957 and 1977. But this time the King's speech is meant to send a message about Canada's sovereignty,

particularly as the US president has mused about Canada becoming a 51st state. This is all happening while the UK navigates its own relationship with the Trump administration. It's an invitation for a second state visit. The King personally inviting the president back to the UK for another visit and a state dinner. Experts say both Canada and the UK are each doing what they need to do to protect their own interests. In this case, the King playing a key role in both storylines.

Nicole Williams, CBC News, Ottawa. An Ontario man who killed a provincial police officer has been convicted of murder and the attempted murder of two other officers. As Kristi Nees reports, graphic body camera footage played an important role in the case. It took the jury a little more than a day to reach the verdict. Guilty is charged for the first degree murder of Sergeant Eric Mueller, a father of two, and attempted murder for firing at two other officers in Bullject, Ontario on May 11th, 2023. They'd entered Alain Belfray's home at 2.30 in the morning

to check on him. Belfray was sentenced to life in prison with no parole for 25 years. There were hugs and sighs of relief among relatives and supporters of the police. On the other side of the courtroom, Belfay's family cried. The 41-year-old had admitted to shooting the officers but maintained his innocence. He said he thought it was a home invasion by robbers.

Crucial evidence in the case came from the body-worn cameras of the police, at that time quite new for OPP. The defense says Belfay's family and friends are heartbroken. He has 30 days to decide if he wants to appeal. Kristi Nies, CBC News, Ottawa. A collision involving two SUVs and a transport truck has killed five people. All of them from a high school in Walkerton, attending a sporting event in London, Ontario. The crash happened on Friday afternoon on a rural road near London. Provincial Police Sergeant Ed Sanczuk lays out the series of events.

Our sport utility vehicle collided with a transport truck, with that transport truck then colliding with a second SUV. The occupants in the first SUV, a 33-year-old male, was pronounced deceased in hospital. Two 17-year-old females, along with a 16-year-old female, were pronounced deceased on scene. The fifth passenger, a 16-year-old female, was airlifted to hospital, where old female were pronounced deceased on scene. minor injuries. Hudson's Bay is planning to sell more than two dozen of its store leases to a billionaire mall owner from BC. Ruby Lou says she wants to launch a new modern department store. The company is seeking core permission for Lou to take over properties at the Bay and its sister store, Saks, leased in BC, Alberta and Ontario. Bruce Winder is a retail analyst. She wants to create something that's sort of a culturally diverse entertainment center slash shopping center slash food center within these stores. So it's going to be multi-generational,

multi-cultural. Hudson's Bay filed for creditor protection in March and is in the process of liquidating all of its stores. The deal to sell the stores to Loo still has to be court approved. In the PWHL, the Minnesota Frost were victorious on Saturday night with a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Charge. Minnesota now takes a 2-1 lead following a third straight overtime game in the championship series. The defending Walter Cup champions can clinch their second straight title with the win in Game 4 on Monday.
