Canada's head of state will be visiting this week as excited fans of the royals are hoping to catch a glimpse of King Charles III when he gives his throne speech on Tuesday to open a new session of Parliament. Nicole Williams reports. Derek Stakely is a self-proclaimed royal superfan, and he's got an impressive collection to prove it. Mugs, plates, dolls, you name it, all commemorating the British monarchy. He gave CBC a tour a few years ago, and now he's one of many in Ottawa hoping for a chance to meet King Charles and Queen Camilla while they're here. I have like my King Charles flags ready to wave, getting some friends together, we're going to go down and hopefully see them.

It will be their first visit to Canada since becoming king and queen, but it's not their first time in Ottawa. In fact, Charles and Camilla were here just three years ago. But the main purpose of this trip about much more than getting a glimpse of royalty. The king will deliver the speech from the throne, which officially opens the next session of Parliament. Nicole Williams, CBC News, Ottawa. The House of Commons will also have to elect a new speaker first thing Monday. Darren Major reports.

The House of Commons can't do anything without a speaker. It can't pass a bill, it can't debate, it can't technically sit until someone is elected to oversee the proceedings. The election of a speaker is usually a routine affair that passes without much notice. But the position became heavily scrutinized during the last parliamentary session. It's with a heavy heart that I rise to inform members of my resignation. Former speaker Anthony Rota resigned in September 2023

over a controversial moment during Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's address to parliament. Rota invited a Ukrainian veteran who fought with a Nazi unit in the Second World War to sit in the House for that address. Greg Fergus was chosen as Rota's replacement, but he quickly came under fire for a number of activities that the opposition said were overly partisan for his new job. Fergus apologized, he is re-offering his name for the role, but there is no guarantee he will win back the job. At least seven other MPs are putting their names forward for speaker. At least 12 people are dead and dozens injured following another Russian drone and missile attack in the Ukrainian capital Kiev, including other regions of the country. Officials say this is the second consecutive night of attacks. It comes on the third day of a planned prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine. Quebec farmers are stuck in the mud as relentless rain soaks fields and stalls the season. Businesses are reporting far lower sales than normal at this time of year. Gabriel Gindi has more. The weather this past week has been cold, wet and rainy and it's impacting businesses but especially garden centers and farms like Quinn Farms here in Notre Dame de Lille-Perau. They usually see around 500 to 1,000 visitors daily, but only a few cars are in the parking lot.

You can shoot a cannon through the place here. It's pretty quiet. The only produce Quinn is selling from his farm as of right now is asparagus. The cold weather delays its growth, but also makes it sweeter and more tender. Home gardeners are also getting a slow start to the season. Usually planting begins over Victoria Day weekend but many have held off because it's too wet. Even at Kramer Plant Nursery they're reporting that sales as of right now are down 7%. We are like two weeks late, lots of rain, difficult for the plant and difficult for the customer.

Plants and flowers that would have normally been out the door by now haven't moved. But one thing both Quinn and Bergeron can agree on is that they believe this rough patch is only temporary. The union in the Canada Post labor dispute says it's meeting this weekend with mediators and the Crown Corporation. The union's 55,000 workers were in a legal strike position as of Friday but chose to
