From CBC News, it's the World This Hour. I'm Joe Cummings. With thousands of people under
evacuation orders and dozens of fires burning through,
burning out of control, the Prairie provinces are at this point at the forefront of the
Canadian wildfire season. In northern Saskatchewan, there are 19 active blazes with more than
10 communities evacuated. That includes Palikin Narrows, which has a population of roughly
4,000.
Meanwhile in neighboring Manitoba, 22 fires are burning and a province-wide state of emergency
has been declared.
Josh Crabb has the latest now from Winnipeg.
Firefighters forced away from the flames.
A wildfire has spread from Saskatchewan within two kilometers of the northern Manitoba city
of Flynn Flawn.
More than 5,000 people who live there were ordered to leave before midnight.
It's one of 22 active fires in Manitoba.
A province-wide state of emergency has been declared
to help with the evacuation of multiple communities and First Nations.
All told, we're looking at about 17,000 people in northern communities that are being evacuated.
Premier Wab Kinew says Prime Minister Mark Carney has offered federal support.
Manitoba asked for help from the Canadian Armed Forces,
moving people from remote places where highway and airport access has been cut off.
The province is working with officials in Winnipeg to make room for evacuees
in community centres and recreational facilities. With hot temperatures and no rain in the forecast, there is little relief in sight for
crews on the front lines. Josh Crabb, CBC News, Winnipeg. And at the same time, heat warnings are
in effect for most of Alberta today. Temperatures are expected to hover around 30 degrees Celsius,
including in northern areas of the province where fire crews are working to control multiple out-of-control wildfires.
A U.S. federal court has handed President Donald Trump a big setback.
It is blocking most of the Trump administration's tariff campaign, ruling that the White House
has overstepped its authority in bringing in its so-called Liberation Day trade measures.
Trump officials say they will appeal the ruling, with the White House saying,
quote, it's not up to unelected judges to decide how to properly address a national emergency.
But at least for now, most of the tariffs are on hold.
The UN World Food Program says conditions in Gaza are alarming and deteriorating.
There are reports two more people as well have died
of gunshot wounds after crowds of people stormed a warehouse
storing humanitarian aid.
Hannah Cunningham has more.
Chaos outside the World Food Program's Agha Fary warehouse Wednesday.
Thousands of people showed up desperate for food
after a three-month Israeli blockade.
The entrance to the warehouse was breached, people seen carrying away bags of flour.
Half a million people are now facing starvation.
Martin Griffiths is a former UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs.
You need to flood the strip with aid.
Under international pressure, Israel has allowed a limited amount of relief to be delivered
in Gaza via the UN or the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
In southern Gaza, people have been returning to the group's newly established food distribution
centre in Rafah.
There were chaotic scenes there Tuesday when large crowds gathered.
The Israeli military says its soldiers did not fire at civilians.
Gaza health officials say at least one person was killed and 48 injured.

The Edmonton Oilers can advance to the Stanley Cup final tonight with a win over the Dallas
Stars. Game five of their Eastern Conference series is set for Dallas with the Oilers leading
that best of seven, three games to one.
If Edmonton wins, they move on to face the Florida Panthers.
The Panthers advance to the cup final with a 5-3 victory and 4-1 series win last night
over Carolina.
For the defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers, it's the third straight year they've made
it to the final.
And that is the World This Hour.
