So lately, I've been really blown away by how locked in Canadians are to political news.
I'm Jamie Poisson, host of the daily news podcast Frontburner.
And while the election's over, that does not mean that people are done with politics.
Quite the opposite, really.
So if you're curious about how our country will navigate this divided and crucial moment
in our history, listen to Frontburner.
We've got you covered on that and a wide range of other top-of-mind stories as well.
Follow Frontburner wherever you get your podcasts.
From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Julianne Hazel Wood.
At least 17,000 people have been evacuated from wildfires ravaging Manitoba, and hundreds more waiting to be moved out. 2,500 in Matthews-Colomkri Nation alone, according to its vice chief.
Isolated because planes can't land on its airstrip. Endangered as winds blow the
flames toward the community. Kara Wilson is grand chief of the
Association of Manitoba Chiefs. She says action is needed quickly.
We have people that are waiting to be evacuated.
Please take this seriously.
When we're talking about all levels of government, you have the resources.
Take this seriously.
We need to get these people out.
We can't wait for jurisdictional issues or debates on who's paying for what and who's
doing what.
Wilson says the Canadian Armed Forces
has offered to move people out on helicopters, which can only take six at a time. In Saskatchewan,
residents of Cretan are watching the direction of the wind. Any change could seal the fate of the
town. Only firefighters and public works crew are still there. Everyone else has evacuated.
Saskatchewan, Alberta, and BC are all dealing with out of control wildfires and evacuation
orders. Smoke has triggered air quality alerts in all those provinces as well as Ontario,
Quebec and the Northwest Territories. Air quality in some parts of the United States
is also getting worse as the winds push the smoke south.
In Gaza, Palestinian health officials say Israeli attacks in the
past 24 hours have killed 70 people. The UN Human Rights Office says dozens of people
were also injured when crowds overwhelmed an aid center. The Israeli-backed organization
put in charge of distributing that aid says it will strengthen its operations. Their aid efforts have been boycotted by organizations including the Red Cross and UN, who argue
that the current system makes it impossible for people to receive aid safely.
Jens Larga speaks for the UN Aid Coordination Office.

And the aid operation that we have ready to roll is being put in an operational
straight jacket that makes it one of the most obstructed aid operations, not only in the world
today but in recent history. Israel says its security measures are in place to prevent aid
from getting into the hands of Hamas. Prime Minister Mark Carney laid out his priorities in
front of municipal leaders today.
Carney is promising to move fast on slashing development charges to build more homes and
improve public safety.
Olivia Stefanovic reports.
We will move from delay to delivery.
A new Prime Minister setting a new relationship with Canada's municipalities.
Work relentlessly to keep Canadians safe.
Mark Carney says his government will soon introduce legislation to stop drugs and guns from flowing
across the Canadian border, while also hiring a thousand more RCMP officers, making bail
harder to get for repeat offenders, and partnering with cities and towns to address the housing
shortage.
We will work with you to slash development charges in half, in half, for all multi-unit housing.
And as Canada is locked in a trade war with the U.S.,
Kearney says he will focus on building projects of national significance,
including a high-speed rail link from southwestern Ontario to Quebec City.

Taylor Swift now owns her entire catalogue of music.
The pop star has bought back rights to the master recordings of her first six
albums about six years after her former record label sold her body of work to a
private equity firm. Swift then began re-recording and re-releasing her
earlier songs in an attempt to gain back control. In a letter to fans today she
said, all of the music I've ever made now belongs to me."
And that's The World This Hour.
