From CBC News, the World This Hour, I'm Trisha Kindleman. Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says the province's ability to fight wildfires is reaching a breaking point. There are now 17 active fires in that province.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Meanwhile in Manitoba, more communities are under evacuation orders. Sam Sampson reports. Air lifted out of their homes by the military, these Manitobans take a moment to rest, then carry on to the next leg of evacuation. Off to other communities as far south as Winnipeg. They're now safe as fire continues to close in on their homes. I could see the stress, the worry, the you know the relief. That's what I feel and I'm happy they're here you
Starting point is 00:01:18 know when they land especially when I see the kids and the babies. I want to cry but I hold back. I'm just very proud of everybody for being brave. About 17,000 people have been forced from their homes in northern Manitoba. Many are still trying to escape but thick smoke and impassable roads means armed forces flights are the only way out. The province continued to declare evacuation orders on Saturday. Communities near the Saskatchewan border like Cranberry Portage and Sturgeon Landing have been ordered to leave. Starting point is 00:01:52 Rallies were held in more than a dozen Canadian cities to highlight the ongoing labour dispute between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. Employees are accusing Canada Post of dragging out that labour dispute, while the Crown Corporation has said that it's asked Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu to force a union membership vote on its latest proposal. In international news reports say at least 26 people are dead after Israeli tanks opened fire near an aid centre in Gaza. Another 150 people have been injured.
Starting point is 00:02:26 Red Cross officials say the crowd was gathered to receive food in the southern city of Raafa. CBC's Tom Perry is following this story. Well, at this point, we've been hearing reports of multiple fatalities near an aid distribution site in southern Gaza. We've seen images of people being brought to hospital. We've heard from doctors talking about treating the wounded. This apparently happened, as I said, around a center where aid was being distributed.
Starting point is 00:02:56 The Israel Defense Force is saying it's unaware of any casualties. We've also heard a statement this morning from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. That's the group that's been operating in the area saying it's operating as normal. But again these are very conflicting reports at this point. Despite these reports we're getting from the Israeli military and from the aid group, the fact is we are hearing from doctors, from patients coming in. So something
Starting point is 00:03:21 something clearly has happened. Tom Perry, CBC News, Ramallah. And two people have died and close to 500 arrests were made in Paris as soccer fans clashed with police. Police fired tear gas as fans shoot off fireworks along the Champs-Elysees. The celebrations were for Paris at Saint Germain's soccer team. It won the Champions League final for the first time ever, but the party took a turn as some fans began looting and smashing bus shelters and torching vehicles. Back here at home, some of this country's brightest stars will be on display this evening
Starting point is 00:03:57 as the Canadian Screen Actors Awards are handed out. Mark de Gabbra-Solessi has more on that. In Toronto's war on crime. From TV's law and order Toronto criminal intent, to the big screens The Apprentice, a Canadian produced movie about Donald Trump's early years as a businessman. This is just a taste of the TV shows and movies nominated for the Canadian Screen Awards tonight. More than a dozen awards are set to be handed out. That includes a special presentation for actor Manny Jacinto. Yeah, and I'm freaking out, dog.
