From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Gina Louise Phillips.
Ukraine says more than 100 of its drones destroyed over 40 Russian planes deep inside Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky
calls it a unique operation.
That's Zelensky during his nightly address to Ukrainians. He says the operation was based out of an office next to a local branch of Russia's intelligence and security service. Russia's defense ministry confirms the attacks, which comes as the two sides meet tomorrow in
Turkey for a new round of peace talks. At least 31 people are dead after Israeli
tanks reportedly opened fire near an aid center in Gaza. An ambulance rushed some
of the 170 wounded to hospital. Red Cross officials say the crowd
was gathered to receive food in the southern city of Raffa. Witnesses say thousands had
arrived at the aid center only for Israeli forces to tell them to disperse and come back
later. Prime Minister Mark Carney has appointed a permanent chief of staff. Mark-Andre Blanchard was Canada's ambassador to the United Nations between 2016 and 2020.
He takes over from interim chief of staff Marco Mendicino next month.
Carney met this afternoon with energy executives in Calgary.
He has said he wants Canada to be an energy superpower.
He'll also be addressing this at the First Minister's Summit in Saskatoon.
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says he wants to hear Carney's ideas.
What I would say our focus is, is yes, let's prioritize some projects, let's get them across
the line, but let's also not lose sight of the fact that we need to build a regulatory process
that works for everyone and works for Canadians so that we can attain those aspirations that Prime
Minister Carney has put forward with respect to being
the strongest economy in the G7 and a global energy superpower.
Tomorrow's meeting is happening amid the wildfires ravaging the Western provinces.
Mo says Ottawa has been very supportive but so far he has not asked for federal
aid. From clashes to celebration, thousands of fans lined the
streets for the Paris Saint-Germain victory parade.
Paris won the Champions League crown Saturday beating rival Inter Milan 5-0.
Hours later, crowds smashed bus shelters and hurled projectiles at riot
police.
Two people died and over 500 people were arrested, with hundreds injured in clashes with police.
The city had deployed over thousands of officers after the match.
A new pope upholding Catholic tradition, Leo repeating the stance that marriage is only
between a man and a woman. He said marriage is not just an ideal and that heterosexual marriage is the
foundation of society. In his first address to world diplomats, the pontiff
had already shared his views, aligning with the church's position opposing
same-sex marriage and abortion. Pope Leo's comments come as much of the world marks the beginning of Pride Month.
Speaking of which, celebrations kicked off today in Bangkok with a parade.
Thousands of 2SLGBTQ Plus revelers gathered for the procession, featuring decorated trucks,
drag queens, dancing,
and lots of rainbow flags.
The parade comes after Thailand became the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize
same-sex marriage this January, one of only three countries in Asia to do so.
A new library has opened in Riverview, New Brunswick.
This one is for the dogs.
They can pick a stick and take it with them on their walk. The project was Ash Aerosmith's idea. He says the
stick library is not only fun, it can help keep dogs safe as well. One of the
big positives I think is that if a dog grabs a stick from the library, they
won't have to go off trail to grab a stick from the grass or the forest, which
will help with tick
prevention and preventing other diseases that are associated with ticks so we see
that as you know just an added bonus as well. Aerosmith says there's no strict
enforcement but he encourages dog owners to help repopulate the stick library.
