From CBC News, the world this hour, I'm Neal Herland. U.S. President Donald Trump is resurrecting the travel ban policy from his first term, signing
Starting point is 00:00:45 a proclamation that prevents people from a dozen countries from entering the United States. The recent terror attack in Boulder, Colorado has underscored the extreme dangers posed to our country by the entry of foreign nationals who are not properly vetted, as well as those who come here as temporary visitors and overstay their visas. We don't want them. The countries include Afghanistan, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. Trump's first term travel bans were challenged in court, but ultimately upheld by the U.S.
Starting point is 00:01:21 Supreme Court. At least five people, including a one-year-old child, were killed in a Russian drone strike in northern Ukraine overnight. Six more people were wounded in the attack and have been hospitalized. Wildfires in Manitoba and Saskatchewan have forced more than 30,000 people to leave their homes. Officials are starting to get a sense of the scale of the damage so far. Cameron McIntosh reports from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Pumping water for the firefight at the village of Dener Beach. Crews saw winds from Saskatchewan's wolf fire kick the lake up.

Staying at a hotel in Prince Albert, Patsy Janay knows her brother's home is gone. She's not certain about hers, not far away. I pray that I'll go home to a home. A community of 700, full damage, is yet to be assessed. Fires also surround nearby Creighton and and Flintlawn, Manitoba. Across Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, about 35,000 people in total
Starting point is 00:02:30 are out of their homes. In La Ronge, Saskatchewan, helicopters bombed the downtown with water. Two businesses were lost but the flames were pushed back. A victory for now, says Mayor Joe Hordaiski. Cameron McIntosh, CBC News, Prince Albert. Tributes are pouring in for Mark Garnot. Canada's first astronaut is dead at the age of 76. Garnot made history when he flew on the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1984. Roberta Bondar was the first Canadian woman in space. For Mark, it was not just him showing Canadians that we had a place and a role in Canada in the space program, but it was also really to show the Americans that we had not just the talent of a Canadarm,
Starting point is 00:03:17 but we had people who could back it up. That was really an important step for Mark and for all of us to be able to see that. Garnot later entered Canadian politics as a Liberal MP and cabinet minister. Prime Minister Mark Carney says may we all remember him for the national pride and possibility he represented to us all. A Calgary dentist whose business was found to be the highest billing clinic in Canada for root canals has pleaded guilty to fraud this week. Dr. Alena Smadich admitted to defrauding both Sun Life and Blue Cross Insurance companies out of more than $125,000. The College of Dental Surgeons of Alberta confirms she's no longer working. The Edmonton Oilers have won Game one of the Stanley Cup final with a thrilling
Starting point is 00:04:06 sudden death overtime victory against the Florida Panthers. Final score four three. The CBC's Julia Wong reports from Rogers Place in downtown Edmonton. Edmonton Oilers fans are basking in the glow of a game-one win on home ice. There were some tense moments as the game went into overtime, with the Oilers and the Florida Panthers tied 3-3 at the end of regulation. With 31 seconds left in overtime, Leon Dreisaitl scored the game-winning goal, and the crowd outside Roger's place exploded
