I'm Ian Urbina back with an all new season of The Outlaw Ocean.
The stories we bring you this season are literally life or death.
We look into the shocking prevalence of forced labor, mine boggling overfishing, migrants
hunted and captured.
The Outlaw Ocean takes you where others won't.

coexistence.

President Donald Trump speaking at the Oval Office about his proclamation signed yesterday
Banning people from 12 countries from entering the US Trump says the move was needed to protect against foreign terrorists and other security threats.
He made the comments while meeting with German Chancellor Frederick Merz.
We want to keep bad people out of our country.
The Biden administration allowed some horrendous people,
and we're getting them out one by one.
And we're not stopping until we get them out.
We have thousands of murderers.
I hate to, I even hate to say this in front of the Chancellor.
Some of the countries affected by the ban include Afghanistan, Sudan, Eritrea, Iran,
and Somalia.
Canada posted its largest trade deficit ever in April. The more than $7 billion deficit
is a huge increase from $2.3 million in March. Statistics Canada says slowing trade with
the U.S. is behind the increase. April was the first full month of tariffs between Canada and
the US. Exports to the US fell by more than 15 percent. The imports decreased as
well. Canada did export more goods to the rest of the world but not nearly enough
to offset the lost trade with the US. Quebec's immigration minister is
proposing to reduce the number of permanent immigrants
over the next four years.
Jean-François Robertge is presenting three plans limiting newcomers to between 25 and
45,000 per year.
Quebec is also asking Ottawa to reduce by half the number of temporary foreign workers
and foreign students under its jurisdiction, from 400,000 currently to 200,000 by 2029.
Robert says recent immigration has been straining Quebec social programs. He's expecting to have a final plan ready in November.
A daycare in the eastern Ontario village of Westport has been forced to close its doors after allegations of child abuse and neglect. Emma Weller reports.
After receiving a complaint regarding serious safety concerns, Ontario's Ministry of Education
conducted an on-site inspection of Westport Daycare where 32 kids are enrolled, then forced it to shut down.
The inspection report notes instances of physical restraint of a child, bodily harm, and deprivation
of basic needs.
Specifically, children being forcefully grabbed, force-fed, and staff withholding food as a
form of discipline.
It also says children were left unsupervised and faced verbal abuse from educators.
The report says four people were allegedly involved.
In a lawyer's statement on behalf of Westport Daycare, it says the report includes allegations
that are quote, troubling and untrue.
However, it says the daycare is cooperating with the ministry.
The ministry says the centre's license has been temporarily suspended and will stay closed
until it can demonstrate it can safely care for children.
