From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Mike Miles. Day three of the battle between Israel
and Iran and things appear to be intensifying. Israel says it's hit missile storage and launch
sites in Western Israel, I'm sorry, Western Iran in the past couple of hours, while in central Israel a
missile strike has destroyed buildings in the city of Bat Yam.
At least four people are dead, another hundred wounded. Emergency crews are digging through
the wreckage looking for victims and survivors. This is Bat Yam's mayor.
We don't have the exact number of people that are missing, but we do know that there's
a lot of people that haven't been in contact with their loved ones yet.
So now we are focusing on looking for them.
Iran says oil deposits have been hit, but damage is under control and that operations
are back to normal.
Yemen's Houthis, meanwhile, say they've been firing missiles at Israel with Iran's
assistance.
Israel is trying to prevent Iran from building a nuclear bomb.
U.S. President Donald Trump said early Sunday he thinks a deal can be done quickly to end
the conflict, but he's warning Iran not to hit any American targets, vowing to unleash
the full might of the U.S. military at levels not seen before.
The Iran-Israel conflict is expected to take over the G7 summit, which begins Sunday in
Cananascus, Alberta, near Calgary.
Meanwhile, nuclear negotiations between the U.S. and Iran that were scheduled for Sunday
have been scuttled.
U.S. President Donald Trump marked his 79th birthday Saturday, and he got something he's
wanted for years, a parade of military might through the streets of Washington.
The event also marks the US Army's 250th anniversary.
Sasha Petrusic has more.
To the soundtrack of marching bands and the rumble of fighting machines, Washington flexed
its military might. It was exactly the celebration of
the US military President Donald Trump has been asking for. Every other country
celebrates their victories. It's about time America did too. There were 7,000
troops and millions of tons of armor, state-of-the-art tanks and ominous
sounding helicopters under Washington's dark
clouds. The Americans who line the route were enthralled.
President Trump's been the best president that this country's ever had. This parade
is long overdue.
But for many others across the US watching troops deployed to Los Angeles, it's a symbol
of the militarization of the Trump White House. Sasha Petrusik, CBC News, Washington.
Trump and his parade were protested in hundreds of cities and towns across the U.S. and some
in Canada as well.
Donnie, Donnie, don't you know?
We will march until you go.
This is the demonstration in Toronto near the U.S. Consulate followed by a march to
the Ontario Legislature.
Protesters speaking against the president's tariffs, annexation threats, and increasing
authoritarianism.
To the Stanley Cup next, and Edmonton Oilers fans are feeling the sting after the team
lost 5-2 on home ice to the Florida Panthers.
Julia Wong is in Florida with more.
The cheers were deafening inside a Fort Lauderdale Bar as the Edmonton Oilers took on the Florida Panthers.
But the crowd was all about the hometown team, which crushed the Oilers 5-2.
The bar is deep in Panthers territory, not far from the arena where the team plays.
But fans here, like Carolina Del Campo, still hold the Oilers in high regard.
I mean, I personally think that the Oilers are better than last year and Audra McDavid
is crazy. Every time he goes down the ice, I'm like, oh my God.
The Oilers are now down 3-2 in the series. Game 6, which will be do or die for the team,
takes place Tuesday in Florida. Julia Wong, CBC News, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Florida federal, excuse me, former federal cabinet minister Pablo Rodriguez is the new
leader of Quebec's Liberal Party. Rodriguez won the party's leadership contest on Saturday.
He does not currently have a seat in Quebec's National Assembly. Quebec's next provincial
election is set for October 2026.
That is your World This Hour.
For CBC News, I'm Mike Miles.
