Starting point is 00:00:53 to negotiations on a nuclear deal. Iran and Israel have traded blows since Israel attacked Iranian missile and nuclear sites on Friday. Israeli lawmaker Yuli Edelstein insists his country's actions are strictly defensive. Israel as part of its military operation is not setting the goal of the regime changing or toppling the Iranian regime. If it happens no one will shed a tear but this is not our goal. Our goal is to defend Israel from the threat of nuclear or ballistic attacks from Iran.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Days of fighting have killed 24 Israelis and more than 200 Iranians. Ukraine's president is calling for an emergency UN Security Council meeting. Volodymyr Zelensky is in Cananascus, Alberta for the G7 summit. That's where Prime Minister Mark Carney announced more than $4 billion in new support for Ukraine. Murray Brewster reports. Kiev, bombarded by Russian missiles and drones overnight, and a worried, exhausted Ukrainian president a world away. Vladimir Zelensky is in Cananasis, Alberta with G7 leaders, meeting one-on-one and collectively, pressing for more support and sanctions against Russia. He got both from Canada. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced military aid, a reconstruction loan, and more sanctions, including penalties aimed at Russia's shadow fleet.
Starting point is 00:02:22 To be absolutely clear, this support will be unwavering until we get a just peace for Ukrainian people. The one meeting Zelensky was supposed to have, but won't, was with U.S. President Donald Trump, who left the summit early. Marie Brewster, CBC News, Banff, Alberta. The mother of a missing three-year-old Montreal girl will remain behind bars at least for now. 34-year-old Rachel Ella-Todd made a brief court appearance this morning and was charged with
Starting point is 00:02:50 abandoning a child. She will be in court again tomorrow. Lili-Pravagrevel is the Crown Prosecutor. For now, we don't know what happened to Madame the little girl. For now we have the police officer still investigating so we want to make sure that nothing more tragic is going on. Meantime the search for Claire Bell continues today west of Montreal. Police are focusing on an area where they found the child's dog dead on the side of a highway yesterday. Ontario Premier Doug Ford says masked men tried to steal a vehicle from his home overnight. Ford says police thwarted the attempt. Toronto police confirm officers arrested four people, including two youth. They were charged with possessing
Starting point is 00:03:36 an electronic device for car theft and unlawfully purchasing an automobile master key. A joint investigation by Canada and the UK has found genetic testing company 23andMe failed to take basic steps to protect consumer data. Canada's privacy commissioner, Philippe Dufresne, and his UK counterpart, John Edwards, revealed their findings at a news conference in Ottawa this morning. The breach serves as a cautionary tale for all organizations about the importance of data protection in an era of growing cyber threats. It is particularly relevant at a time when more and more personal information is being
Starting point is 00:04:16 collected, used and shared in a growing digital economy. Hackers gained access to the company's website in 2023 using stolen account credentials. The investigation found the data of 7 million customers was stolen in the breach, including the information of 320,000 Canadians. The UK has issued a $4 million fine against the company.
