Hey, how's it going?
Amazing. I just finished paying off all my debt with the help of the credit counseling society.
Whoa, seriously? I could really use their help.
It was easy. I called and spoke with a credit counselor right away. They asked me about my debt,
salary, and regular expenses. Gave me a few options and helped me along the way.
You had a ton of debt and you're saying credit counseling society helped with all of it?
Yep, and now I can sleep better at night.
Right on! When debt's got you, you've got us. Give credit counseling society a
call today. Visit no more debts.org.
From CBC News, the world this hour. I'm Claude Fagg. The U.N. Security Council is set
to hold an emergency meeting Saturday afternoon to discuss Israel's plans for a new ground
operation in Gaza. The move would see the country's military move into one of the few
remaining areas in Gaza it does not currently control. Chris Reyes reports. It's all that's
left of Gaza City, tents and rubble. Those who live here are barely hanging on, and with Israel's
plan to take it over, they could be forced to leave. Where should we go? This is shameful,
says Sabrine Naim, who, like so many Gazans, has already been displaced many times since the
start of the war. From leaders across the globe disapproval, including from Prime Minister Mark Carney.
We join many others in viewing that this is wrong.
It is going to put the lives of the hostages at greater risk.
Germany, a major arms supplier to Israel,
says it will no longer export military equipment that Israel can use in the Gaza Strip.
The EU and the UK urging Israel to reconsider.
Israel already controls most of Gaza.
Its latest plan would mean an almost complete takeover of the enclave.

London. The U.S. Department of Commerce says it has made a final decision to more than double
countervailing duties on Canadian softwood lumber imports. A statement from the American Department
says the duty for most Canadian companies is being increased to nearly 15 percent more than
double the current rate. It says it determined that softwood lumber from Canada was being
unfairly subsidized. Advanced polls open Friday for the federal by-election in the Alberta
a riding of Battle River Crowfoot.
Crowfoot. Conservative leader
Pierre Pollyev is one
of more than 200 candidates.
The CBC's Acton-Clarkin spoke
with some voters at a polling station
in Drumhiller.
This riding has historically been a conservative
stronghold. Most people
probably would feel that that's the
way they expected will stay.
Expectations aside, some voters want
to see at least a competitive race.
I hope it's close, is what
I hope for, yeah. One feeling many
voters have is frustration with being back at the polls less than four months after April's
federal election. Conservative incumbent Damien Currick won back then, but gave up his seat
so that Polyev could run here after Polyev lost his longtime Ottawa area seat.
I don't like that political game playing. Some Polyev supporters, however, feel differently.
That's the way the system works. I mean, you get a second chance this way.
Advance polling locations will be open throughout the riding until Monday night. After that,
Voters will have to wait to cast their ballots on Election Day, August 18th.

The New Brunswick government has placed restrictions on some forestry operations to decrease wildfire risk in the province.
The restricted forestry activities include harvest, chipping, and all pre-commercial thinning and cleaning until Tuesday.
There's also a burn ban in place for the entire province, including all provincial parks.
firefighters in California are trying to get a rapidly spreading brush fire under control.
The canyon fire broke out in Ventura County Thursday afternoon and ballooned to more than 2,000 hectares in size.
It's located about 100 kilometers northwest of downtown Los Angeles and has prompted evacuations in the area.
Homeowner Joseph DiLeonardi says firefighters were able to save his home.
The bulldozers were up on the hill.
for six or seven hours, just pushing brush around.
And without these brave people, we would have been out of luck.
Now, as of the most recent update, reports say about 25% of the blaze has now been contained.
There are several major fires burning on the U.S. West Coast that have seen explosive growth in recent weeks.
And that is your world this hour.
