Thousands of people have had to flee their homes and cabins as a series of wildfires rip through Newfoundland and Labrador. Meanwhile, the provincial government says it's being inundated with reports of people setting fires intentionally despite a province-wide fire ban. Premier John Hogan is angry and says it needs to stop.

I'm frustrated that this is reckless and irresponsible behavior. Fines now range from $50,000 to $150,000 as well as up to a year in prison. Smoke from nearby wildfires is affecting the air quality in St. John's, but it isn't putting a damper on the excitement for the Canada Games. The New Brunswick government has placed restrictions on some forestry operations to decrease wildfire risks in that province.

The restricted forestry activities include harvest, chipping, and all pre-commercial thinning and cleaning until Tuesday. There's also a burn ban in place for the entire province, including all provincial parks. U.S. President Donald Trump says a meeting with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will happen next Friday. In a social media post, Trump says discussions on ending the war in Ukraine will take place in Alaska. It would mark the first time the pair have met face to face since 2019. Trump previously said a deal would involve some swapping of territories, adding that an agreement was very close. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy says any solutions without his country present would be solutions against peace. A shooting at the headquarters of the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta has left two people dead, including a law enforcement officer.

According to local authorities, a gunman opened fire on one of the CDC buildings Friday afternoon. The officer identified as 33-year-old David Rose of the DeKalb County Police Department died of his injuries after responding to the incident. Darren Shearbaum is Atlanta Chief of Police. Right now, the investigation is being conducted by the Atlanta Police Department's complex case squad by the GBI and the FBI in a joint investigation until we know more information as to what transpired. The suspect was found dead in a nearby building. Police are working under the theory that the suspect was sick or believed he was sick and blamed the illness on the COVID-19 vaccine. Advanced polls open Friday for the federal by-election in the Alberta riding of Battle River Crowfoot. The CBC's Acton Clarkin reports from Drumhiller. This rioting has historically been a conservative stronghold.

Most people probably would feel that that's the way they expected will stay. Expectations aside, some voters want to see at least a competitive race. I hope it's close, is what I hope for, yeah.
