From CBC News, The World This Hour. I'm Riley Lechuk. The UN Security Council is holding an emergency meeting Sunday about Israel's plan to take control of Gaza. That plan has sparked outrage and criticism around the world. CBC's Karen Pauls has more from Washington. Hundreds of people were arrested at this protest in London in support of the group,
Starting point is 00:00:56 Palestine Action, designated a terrorist organization, by the U.K., something supporters reject. Shame on the police! Demonstrators there, joining those in other cities, expressing anger over Israel's plan to occupy Gaza's city and take security control of the whole territory. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Fox News. We intend to, in order to assure our security,
Starting point is 00:01:24 remove Hamas there, enable the population to be free of Gaza, and to pass it to civilian governance. That is not Hamas. The UN Security Council has scheduled an emergency session for Sunday. But the U.S., one of two nations not endorsing the meeting, could veto any resulting resolution. Karen Paul's, CBC News, Washington. In Newfoundland and Labrador, close to 3,000 people remain under an evacuation order
Starting point is 00:01:52 due to wildfires. Local firefighters will be getting more help this weekend from Quebec and Ontario, as well as from the Coast Guard and Armed Forces. The Kingston Wildfire is the largest of the wildfires. It has destroyed nine homes in the small town of Small Point, Adams Cove, Blackhead, Broadcove. Meantime, heat warnings are in place for parts of BC's interior and Vancouver Island as crews continue to battle the Wesley Ridge Wildfire. Some communities could see daytime highs of up to 35 degrees, Sunday and Monday.
Starting point is 00:02:23 The BC Wildfire Service says the hot, dry weather, could intensify wildfire activity. Fire information officer Madison Dahl says firefighters are also up against difficult terrain. We are well-resourced and we work very closely with our partners as we have here. The Wesley Ridge Wildfire is burning in different types of terrain. Some parts are inaccessible for heavy equipment. That's where we utilize ground crews and we depend on helicopter access. Hundreds of people have been out of their homes for over a week now due to
Starting point is 00:02:56 the blaze. And hot and humid weather has also enveloped much of Ontario and parts of Quebec. Environment Canada is warning of a multi-day heat wave, with temperatures possibly reaching 35 degrees, with the humidX near 40 lasting until Tuesday. Hotels and motels across the country are stepping up their fight against human trafficking by educating staff on what to look for, as well as how to help. CBC's Catarina Georgieva has more on how the hotel industry is saying, not in our hotel in Windsor, Essex, in particular. Darmish Patel is the Windsor Regional Chair of the Ontario Restaurant Hotel and Motel Association.
Starting point is 00:03:35 He says hospitality workers can play a vital role in recognizing the signs of human trafficking. Windsor's locations of Border City and Travel Hub puts us at greater risk. He is ensuring hotels and motels in the area and across the country know about a free national training program. Not in our hotel teaches staff to spot red flags, such as, cash-only payments or a lot of traffic in and out of a room and instruct staff to call authorities if they suspect something. Patel says the program gives staff important tools while keeping themselves safe. We don't want you to take action on it. We want you to report and escalate it. Ketterina Georgieva, CBC News, Windsor. And a milestone for Major League Baseball this weekend, a woman umpired a regular season game for the first time in the league's history. Jen Powell was the first base umpire for game one of Saturday's Marlins Braves doubleheader. She was at third base for game two and is expected to be behind home plate for Sundays, game three.
