The UN Security Council is holding an emergency meeting later today about Israel's plan to take control of Gaza. That plan has sparked outrage and criticism around the world. CBC's Karen Pauls has more from Washington. Hundreds of people were arrested at this protest in London in support. of the group, Palestine Action, designated a terrorist organization by the U.K., something supporters reject. Shame on the police! Demonstrators there, joining those in other cities, expressing anger over Israel's plan to occupy Gaza's city

We intend to, in order to assure our security, remove Hamas there, enable the population to be free of Gaza and to pass it to civilian governance. That is not Hamas. The UN Security Council has scheduled an emergency session for Sunday, but the U.S., one of two nations not endorsing the meeting,

Back in this country, close to 3,000 people remain under an evacuation order in Newfoundland and Labrador due to wildfires. Local firefighters will be getting more help this weekend from Quebec and Ontario, as well as from the Coast Guard and Armed Forces. The Kingston Wildfire is the largest of the wildfires burning in the province. It has destroyed nine homes in the small town of Small Point Adams Cove, Blackhead, Broadcove. Heat warnings are in place meantime for parts of BC's Interior and Vancouver Island as crews continue to battle the Wesley Ridge Wildfire.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Some communities could see daytime highs of up to 35 degrees Sunday and Monday. The BC Wildfire Service says the hot, dry weather could intensify wildfire activity. Fire information officer Madison Dahl says firefighters are also up against difficult terrain. We are well-resourced and we work very closely with our partners as we have here. The Wesley Ridge Wildfire is burning in different types of terrain. Some parts are inaccessible for heavy equipment. That's where we utilize ground crews, and we depend on helicopter access. Hundreds of people have been out of their homes for over a week now due to the blaze.
Starting point is 00:03:06 Well, in the midst of trade turmoil with the U.S., Canada is looking to strengthen its relationship with Mexico. Last week, Canada's ministers of foreign affairs and finance visited with top officials in Mexico, and now Alberta's premier has announced she is doing the same. Sarah Reid has more. We want to engage further with Mexico. Speaking about his recent trip south, Canada's finance minister, Francois Philippe Champagne, says Canada wants to have a strong relationship with Mexico. Alberta's premier, Daniel Smith, also wants that for her province.
Starting point is 00:03:40 In a statement, Smith says she'll be making a similar trip with the goal of attracting new investment. You have to maintain the relationship. University of Calgary and a member of the Mexican Council of Foreign Relations. He says when it comes to critical trade, especially for Western Canada, Mexico plays an important part in helping diversify our market.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Partnering with Mexico, well, the possibilities suddenly look a lot brighter. Those possibilities are also thanks to the revised Trans-Pacific Partnership, which Dade says Canada isn't currently taking full advantage of. Sarah Reid, CBC News, Edmonton. League Baseball reached a milestone this weekend. A woman umpired a regular season game for the first time in the league's 122 year history. Jen Powell was the first base umpire for game one of Saturday's Marlins Braves doubleheader. She was at third base for game two and is expected to be behind home plate for Sunday's game three.
