Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is welcoming a joint statement calling for Kiv to be included
in talks about its territorial future. The announcement last night came from the leaders of
Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, the European Union and Finland. In it, they welcomed
US President Donald Trump's efforts to try and end the war in Ukraine. But with Trump only planning
to meet Russia's Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, European leaders insisted any peace talks
must include Keeve and push back on the idea it had to make territorial concessions to Russia
in exchange for peace. The notion of some form of territorial swapping between the countries
was suggested by Trump on Friday, but swiftly rejected by President Zelensky the very next day.
According to US media reports, the White House is considering inviting Zelensky to Friday's summit,
but for now it remains a purely US-Russia affair.
