two are in new brunswick while newfoundland and labrador is dealing with four a new fire sprang up
just this afternoon and is quickly approaching a populated area nicholas sigant reports
please get ready to leave on a moment's notice newfoundland and labrador premier john hogan warning residents to be on alert
as fires creep closer to homes.
Hogan says close to 3,000 people have already evacuated.
Four fires burning out of control in the province
and a new one started this afternoon just outside St. John's.
Officials say the Paddy's Pond Fire is quickly growing
and nearing a populated area.
Newfoundland Hydro says the fire is directly in its transmission corridor
and could cause a power outage in St. John's and surrounding areas.
Either hydro having to cut the power,
water can be dropped or potential smoke that could interfere with the transmission lines.
Meanwhile, two out-of-control fires are threatening communities in New Brunswick.
Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Maine are sending 30 firefighters to help battle the fires near Moncton and Mirmishie,
with some residents already evacuated and others hoping for the heat and the drought to end.

Air Canada flight attendants are picketing at four major airports across Canada today.
about 10,000 workers could walk off the job in a matter of days.

At Toronto's Pearson Airport, Air Canada flight attendants are demonstrating to show support for their union
as contract negotiations with the airline continue.
Post to coast, flight attendants are standing up for themselves.
The flight attendants want pay increases and say they need to be paid for the time they work before a plane takes off,
and not just when planes are moving.
Air Canada says it's made a proposal that would make its flight attendants the best paid in Canada,
and it hopes to reach a settlement with the union without any disruption to travel.
For now, the uncertainty has travelers on edge.
I was a little unsure what to expect when I got here this morning,
because there hasn't been too many details released.
So it's a little unnerving.
If the two sides aren't able to reach a deal,
more than 10,000 workers could walk off the job as early as Saturday.

The U.S. President is deploying hundreds of National Guard troops in the nation's capital to crack down on crime.
Donald Trump claims gang activity is rampant in Washington.
That is despite D.C. police data showing violent crime overall is at a 30-year low.
Trump says the increased surge in federal law enforcement will continue for as long as needed.

adding only that they have to move out and go far away at least one person is dead and two are
believed to be missing after an explosion rocked a steel plant near Pittsburgh this morning.
Dozens of people are injured.
Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman says today's explosion is proof how dangerous the industry is.
It's just absolutely tragic, and now I agree for these families.
The U.S. steel facility is the largest coking operation in North America, producing fuel for steel production.
The U.N. Secretary General Chief has condemned the killing of Algezzi.
journalist in yesterday's Israeli air strike in Gaza. Among the Mizanas al-Sharif, who Israel claims
was a Hamas operative. A spokesman for Antonio Guterres says journalists must be protected and allowed
to carry out their work free from fear and free from harassment. More than 240 journalists have
